The second largest city in Korea has changed its English name from Pusan to Busan to bring it in line with standard translation and a major Asian film Festival has now become known as the Busan International Film Festival. In addition, the project market formerly known as the Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP) has been renamed the Asian Project Market (APM) as of 2011. With re-branding as a stepping-stone, the Busan International Film Festival will develop into a leading film festival.

7. Since the first official discussion took place in 2004, the Busan Cinema Center has been under construction since 2008 and will finally be completed in September. The Busan Cinema Center will function as an exclusive venue for screenings and events for the BIFF during the festival period, but also as a symbolic structure representing the film culture and business in Asia.
