Jingle is a framework for multimedia sessions over XMPP that allows XMPP clients to support voice, video, and other media. It negotiates session parameters over XMPP and uses a binary-friendly transport for media. Jingle aims to enable interoperability between XMPP clients for multimedia in a standardized way, addressing issues that past approaches faced regarding areas like authentication and presence. Development is ongoing through the XMPP Standards Foundation and various clients and services now support or are integrating support for Jingle.
