 Cache memory.
Q. What is computer memory?
Ans:- Computer memory is any physical
device Capable of storing information
temporarily or permanently .
Types of memory:-
1. Primary memory
2. Secondary memory
Primary memory:-
It is also called main memory. Primary
memory holds only those data and instruction on which
computer is currently working. It has limited capacity and
data is lost when power is switched off.It is generally made up
of semi-conductor devices. Example-RAM.
Secondary memory:-
This type of
memory is also known as external memory or non-volatile.
These are used for storing data permanently. Example-HDD.
RAM ROM
1. Stands for random access
memory.
1. Stands for read only memory.
2. Ram is a read and write
memory.
2. Normally ROM is read only
memory and it can not be over
written.
3. Ram is faster. 3. ROM is slower than RAM.
4. RAM is volatile memory. 4.ROM is non-volatile memory.
5. Price of RAM is high. 5.ROM is cheaper .
6.RAM chips are bigger in size. 6.ROM chips are smaller in size.
Types of RAM :-
Static RAM (SRAM)
Dynamic RAM (DRAM)
SRAM :-
 SRAM chips are use matrix of 6 transistor
and no capacitor.
 Transistor do not require power to prevent
leakage .
 SRAM need not be refreshed on regular
bases.
DRAM :-
 DRAM must be continually refreshed in
order to maintain data.
 This is done by placing the memory on a
refresh circuit that rewrite the data several
hundred times per second.
 DRAM is used in most of computer because
it is very cheap and small.
 It use one register and one capacitor.
Comparison in RAM :-
Types of ROM :-
 MROM (Masked ROM)
 PROM (Programmable ROM )
 EPROM (Erasable and Programmable ROM)
 Electrically Erasable and Programmable
(EEPROM)
Cache memory:-
 Cache memory is very high speed semi
conductor memory which can speed up cpu.
 It act as a buffer between cpu and main
memory.
 It hold the data that is frequently visited by
cpu.
 Data can transfer by OS in cache memory.
