Essay on Dyslexia
Some of us in the world may have problems with reading, spelling, and other academics. You might
not know why they cannot read or spell as well as you can because they have a disorder. This
disorder is called dyslexia. People with dyslexia struggle with: listening, reading, writing, spelling,
and even handwriting. However, having dyslexia doesn't mean that they are not intelligent. Some of
the greatest minds in the world have or had dyslexia. One of the most fascinating reasons for
dyslexia is the dominate ear. Even though they may be different doesn't mean that they are stupid.
(Hotz, Sollier) Dyslexia is a learning disorder that is linked with problems of reading, writing, and
spelling. (Britannica Company) One in five...show more content...
Children that read well can process word in four hundred milliseconds, but children with dyslexia
take five hundred milliseconds or more. This makes them not read as well as others and as fast
as other can. (Hotz) People with dyslexia are slow, but that doesn't mean that they are not
intelligent. I think that people with this disorder have the most creative and outgoing minds in
the world. People with dyslexia may have intelligent levels over one hundred. Brilliant mind
come with brilliant ideas. Athletes, writers, actors, and even characters have or had dyslexia.
Here are some of the brilliant minds you may know: Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Benjamin
Franklin, Mozart, John Lennon, Tom Cruise, Magic Johnson, and Walt Disney. All of these
dyslexics have come to be some of the greatest minds and just look were that put them. Don't put
people with dyslexia down encourage then to go on because some day they could do great things
for are world. (Sollier) This disorder is linked to genetics of the humans' sixth chromosome. This
genetic link runs in families. It may come for both or one side of the family. Test for dyslexia
could lead to the gene. Scientist were working to find a test that could lead to a drug to get rid of the
problem, but they found that only phonetics can help the student. (Talan) Dyslexics have problems
with sounds out letters which makes it harder to read and

"Women–and Minority–Owned Businesses Adapt to New Economy"
"Women–and Minority–Owned Businesses Adapt to New Economy" written by Yvette Armendariz
was an article that I found in the archives of the Arizona Republic (October 6, 2002) via the
internet. This article dealt with the readings from class over the past couple of weeks, especially
dealing with women and Global Economy. As the title reads, women–owned businesses are adapting
to the new economy, the economy after the New York September 11th attacks. This article is a year
old, but I thought that it still had merit and was worth writing about.
In this article there are 4 companies mentioned. Two are owned by Caucasian women and the other
two, by men...show more content...

The owner, Terri Bowersock, is highly involved in the business and employs wonderfulmarketing

this store because she had a hobby of interior decorating and wanted to make a career out of it.
These women did something that most women do not have the courage to do – they started up a
business, in which they had a desire to work hard and wanted to achieve something more then
they received at other jobs. In a movie that we watched in class there was a lady, a teacher of
needlework. This lady held classes that taught embroidery and sewing, in order to give the girls a
skill. This trade school for women taught them essential techniques in order to make a living or add
to their husbands incomes to increase their impoverish lives.

Analysis Of The Movie ' The Help ' Essay
The film "The Help" (2011), is a story based on the daily lives of prominent white women and the
relationships with their African–American housemaids in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s
Civil Rights movement in America. A well–to–do white woman and central character in this film,
Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, aspires to be a journalist and decides to write and publish an exposГ©
of the stories of the housemaids in Jackson to achieve this goal, however, only two maids, Aibileen
Clark and Minny Jackson are willing to discuss their experiences with her. The other maid's in
Jackson resist telling Skeeter their stories, fearing the punishments they would endure if the
authorities were to find out. In spite of this, after the malicious arrest of one of their befriended
maids, all of the maids begin to share their experiences, which consist of racial hostility and being
treated as intrinsically subservient to white people. The story Skeeter publishes entitled The Help,
creates a disturbance among the white families in Jackson, by exposing the racism the maids are
faced with, forcing the white families to reflect upon how they have treated their maids. The
storyline represented in The Help exhibits examples of the primordial approach to race and ethnicity,
as well as numerous sociological concepts including segregation, internalized oppression, and white
privilege, which will be exemplified in this paper in order to uncover the race relations evident
within this film.

Spending Time With My Family
Spending time with my Family during the weekends
The most important thing for me in my life is my family. Although we are separated during the
week, we would hardly see each other. Deep down, they are the reason why I look forward to
Fridays and Sundays. These days are not Just any ordinary day for my family because we get to
come to gather and have fun we bond as any other normal family dose. Another reason why my
family is important to me is because my mother is my motivation to finish the week she is the first
person I see in the morning and the last person I see at night.
My Mother and I are the only ones that live in Storm Lake, so it is very hard and stressful
sometimes because we really do not see each other due to her working schedule. My mother works
from 8:00 AM to 9:00 pM, every week except on Fridays. So during the rest of the week, I feel like I
am alone all the time.
Every day, I do the same thing, get out of school and go home. The house would feel so empty
and silenced. Just me with my soul normally feeling bored and depressed It's all that comes to my
mind when there is no one to talk to. Mondays for me are the longest I feel that the day won't even
end from all the chores I have to do; taking out the trash , washing the dishes to making dinner.
Everything is done by the time my mother comes home so she won't have to worry about it. When
my mom comes home, we sit near the table and eat food from there we say our good nights and set
off to go to

Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to
prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing
especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits
in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfectessay, story, letter, and
assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will
improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different
point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting
feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me
improve.
Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on
more often. They always told me they are the essentials of everything thing. Even though I
disliked both at a young age as I grew older I preferred writing because I can always change the
way I write and write from my point of view, really be creative with it and prove my point.
Growing up I always loved writing short stories especially scary stories. I always was creative
with them and even made them realistic. To write an essay I usually have a couple of steps
writing an outline, and the thesis a draft and finally a final draft. The most difficult part about this
is writing the thesis because the whole essay revolves the thesis because it summarizes the whole
essay. At the end of some essays, I had to use citations to do that there were many websites that
helped me cite sources such as easybib which was a really simple process. So, citing sources was
one of the easiest things about writing the essay.
Writing to a teacher is way more complex then writing to a fried or a family member. Writing to a
teacher is way more complex, I must make sure that everything is on point or it reaches the state of
protection. Which is having the right format, a great thesis and really conveying the point of the
essay. Writing to a friend or a family member is much easier I usually don't focus on grammatic
errors or writing a perfect thesis. Today some of us don't

Becoming a Helper
1. To observe and rationalize our motivations and needs for becoming helpers can help us
develop competent and practical approaches within the helping profession. I view human
struggle as a catalyst for unity, in various degrees because in the face of adversary, we are
naturally inclined to confide in others, seeking what we need to rise above
certain circumstances. To elevate and uplift is directly connected towards my need to care for
others, which has been a driving force behind my decision to enter the helping profession.
Growing up, I had a strong sense of empathy, being able to make connections with my
peers, from different walks of life. A lot of the times, I felt as if it was my "duty" to ensure...show

The need for prestige and status is a reflection for the need of money therefore making this
need irrelevant to me. "If you worked hard and are good at what you do, accept the recognition
you have earned" (Corey&Corey, 2007, p. 6). This statement can be applicable to many if not all
professions. Becoming arrogant due to your status may lead clients to feel uncomfortable
approaching you (Corey&Corey, 2007). It's important as helpers to remain humble and to avoid
putting ourselves on a pedestal because when we do, we may reinforce oppression that our
clients may feel by our status.
The need to provide answers is a need that I aim to fulfill when dealing with clients. Whenever
people came to me for advice, I felt as if it was my obligation to provide the right answers,
because if I can't, who will? There are times where I need to use my discretion and give people
the advice they need to hear, rather than, what they want to hear. Finding the fine line between
the two can often be difficult. Sometimes I have the fear of burning myself out through one–way
caring and having little left to offer. It is in my best interest to learn and practice the art of self
care (Corey&Corey, 2007). Eventually others will have to take care of me, which isn't a sign a
weakness. It's the complete opposite. To admit that one needs help is an act of

The Importance of Physical Activity Essay
Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but
when started at a young age, it can set up good habits for life. Sometimes however, people do not
take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be
detrimental to their health.
Obesity is the condition of being seriously overweight. It is now considered a global health
epidemic by the World Health Organization (2000) (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Physical activity is
important to children in the middle childhood age group because a staggering amount of children
have become overweight in the last few decades and teachers play a role in preventing obesity by
becoming a positive role model,...show more content...
It is because of this high level of cognitive function that physical activity and nutrition are extremely
important (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). They affect the child's physical wellbeing in terms of energy
levels, growth and the ability to concentrate (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
As children grow they continue to need physical activity. One of the methods of exercise that is
popular with children in the middle childhood age is rough and tumble play or 'play fighting'
(McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Unfortunately, this sort of play is often discouraged by schools because
of the possibility that someone may become injured. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers must
find the balance between protecting children from getting hurt and allowing them to run and jump to
release the copious amounts of energy that they have to burn (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
Another unfortunate hindrance to physical activity in schools is the notion that physical activity
takes away from time that could be used for academic studies. This is unjustified however, because
children of this age group are unable to sit and concentrate for long periods of time without being
able to get up and move (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010).
Teachers can play a large role when it comes to addressing and preventing obesity. Because children
spend such a large portion of their time with the teacher, it is the teacher

Essay On Hives
Hives is explained as a rash characterized by intensely itching welts, triggered by the release of
histamine and cause by an allergic response to any of multiple to any of multiple agents or
conditions, including food, drugs, and infection, stated in an article. Hives are caused by an
allergic reaction of the skin, doctors call it Urticaria. Typically hives only last a few minutes or
even seconds. If they do not go away soon it could be a sign of more serious problems. Stated in

pressure after an insect sting, which can turn out to be a life– threatening reaction. Everybody can

identify the root of the problem. The doctor can prescribe medication to the person to help
prevent any breakouts that may happen or can also reduce the severity of the breakout. Some
people also have chronic hives which are hives that persist for at least six weeks which will go on
for years. Having chronic hives can be very uncomfortable and can prevent daily activities and
sleep. Having chronic hives is not life–threatening but some cases can be very painful and
uncomfortable. When a person has severe hives, hives do not respond, or hives continue to appear
for severe days the person must see a doctor. If a person is feeling dizzy, trouble breathing, chest
tightness, or feel your tongue or throat swelling then the person must go to the emergency room.
Having hives can be very painful and embarrassing but having good treatment and taking care of
your body can help prevent any flare ups from

seems too difficult, then I will ask e–mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having
difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and
advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not

After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is "The

highly committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in
school on certain levels in my program, but at the same time, I would and still do not yet know

but I am yet hopeful that I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future.

Challenges That I Face As Writer Essay
As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an
essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be
successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully
developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on
incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back
to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy

challenges with each piece they write. Writers often face certain...show more content...
I am looking to improve on this challenge as a writer by focusing on explaining my quotes and
explanations in a more supportive way that relates back to the thesis. Writing can be improved
upon endlessly by minimizing your challenges as a writer. In writing an essay I also struggle with
incorporating clear topic sentences and connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis
statement. This struggle is based on last years' experience with writing essays. This struggle can
be improved upon by concentrating on what exactly my thesis is stating and building my
sentences to relate and explain the thesis further. Improving on this will allow my writing ability
to increase and help me become a more successful writer. When composing an essay, or journal
entry, or just plain writing, I struggle as a writer with avoiding awkward or wordy phases in my
written work. This struggle is yet again based on last year's experience and feedback from my
English class. Improvement with this struggle can be made by the following strategies: reading over
my paper more carefully, avoiding the use of words that sound intelligent but don't flow with the
paper, and editing my paper with peers. Recognizing this struggle and following these strategies
would improve my writing. Writers develop strategies that help them to overcome or improve upon
their struggles and challenges in their writing. As a

writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about
and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned
while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,
narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I
encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was
finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything
else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and
myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most
of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was

finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of

Therapy
Today many people seek professional therapy or counseling for a limited amount of time in order
to deal with different life crises. Others seek professional help for the majority of their lives in
order to deal with a psychological disorder. After reading this chapter on Therapy, I learned that this
was not always the case, and that the way our society views therapy, and the meaning of therapy, has
changed dramatically of the years. This chapter not only explains the evolution of therapy, it explores
the different therapeutic approaches.
I found chapter thirteen to be very interesting. Learning about the different types of therapy was very

Trephining was the most disturbing picture. I am still amazed that people thought that anything
whatsoever could be solved by chiseling away at a person's head. The picture of the skull was
extremely disturbing: I cannot even fathom how horrible it would have been to be a patient of such
practices. Also one would think that after the first gaping hole in a person's head with no results, the
chiseling would stop. However it is obvious by the number of holes in the skull that this was a
procedure that was tried multiple times on one patient. Other than the trephined skull, I also found it
unusual that bloodletting was such a common practice. It was particularly troubling to learn that it
was used for treating mania, which is something I have experienced.
All of the information on the different types of therapies has helped me to more fully understand
psychology. This chapter is dedicated to explaining the current methods of treating people with
psychological disorders in order to help them through a rough time in life. This chapter on therapy

My Experience In Counselling
My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back then I was a
part of the people who believed in the myths surrounding counselling, back then it was my last
option but I can still look back and say that I took that decision on my own and I was prepared to
face resistance which I did, in the form of my parents who thought that it was an option for people
who had gone 'mad'. Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my
absolute disappointment, the session was useless and at times even offensive to me. The counsellor
asked me my age and started telling a long list of problems I may be facing. She didn't stop there
and then asked me about my weight and any problems that I may be having...show more content...
The first of which are issues that are personal to me, I realise that there are experiences in my past
that may hinder me as a counsellor the most important of which is my inability to maintain eye
contact with another person which wasn't an issue in the past years but in the counselling session
might convey a very negative impression to the client for they may interpret it as my disinterest.
This issue has prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the relevance and
importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also realised how
unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with or without you being aware
about them. There are many areas that I need to work on expect this and the major among them is
my competence as a counsellor, I still need to develop various professional skills that I will be
required to employ in the counselling session and that is something I believe I will gain from my
course. The most important thing that believe I need to work on are my own beliefs about
counselling, for a long time I didn't realise that despite being trained for becoming a counsellor I
never realised that even to me counselling seemed appropriate as the last option, a choice you
make when all else fails and also that with time things will eventually get better and you don't
need therapy to work through it. Both of these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained
more objective knowledge of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is
embracing a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if
proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve things for the
individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in comparison to if you let it
blow to proportion that may severely

Asking For Help Essay
Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of

We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need

of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I
realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would
employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve
their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not
want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a key factor in being successful in college. In
order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish
that, he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student
does not understand something and refuses to ask for help when it is readily available, they are
only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is
more knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead

Depression Essay
Depression is a very big topic to discuss. The most commonly asked questions are: What is
depression, and what disorders are related to depression? How common is depression? Is it serious?
What treatment is used? And, What kind of symptoms should a person be looking for?
Depression is more than the everyday ups and downs. You know when a person is depressed when
their sad feelings interfere with their everyday life. Depression doesn't only affect feelings, but can

school performance, alcohol and drug abuse, running away, and feelings of worthlessness and
hopelessness. Over the past twenty–five years, researchers have found that the rate of suicide among
teenagers and young adults has increased dramatically. Suicide is often linked to depression. Some

psychotherapy is used to learn more effective ways to deal with everyday problems through talking.
In most cases psychotherapy is done in ten to twenty week sessions. Therapists focus on the patients'
disturbed personal relationships. In cases where the patients' symptoms don't progress with in

Some of the greatest minds in the world have or had dyslexia. One of the most fascinating reasons for dyslexia is the dominate ear. As the title reads, women–owned businesses are adapting to the new economy, the economy after the New York September 11th attacks. This trade school for women taught them essential techniques in order to make a living or add to their husbands incomes to increase their impoverish lives. • 3. Analysis Of The Movie ' The Help ' Essay The film "The Help" (2011), is a story based on the daily lives of prominent white women and the relationships with their African–American housemaids in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s Civil Rights movement in America. A well–to–do white woman and central character in this film, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, aspires to be a journalist and decides to write and publish an exposГ© of the stories of the housemaids in Jackson to achieve this goal, however, only two maids, Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson are willing to discuss their experiences with her. The other maid's in Jackson resist telling Skeeter their stories, fearing the punishments they would endure if the authorities were to find out. In spite of this, after the malicious arrest of one of their befriended maids, all of the maids begin to share their experiences, which consist of racial hostility and being treated as intrinsically subservient to white people. The story Skeeter publishes entitled The Help, creates a disturbance among the white families in Jackson, by exposing the racism the maids are faced with, forcing the white families to reflect upon how they have treated their maids. The storyline represented in The Help exhibits examples of the primordial approach to race and ethnicity, as well as numerous sociological concepts including segregation, internalized oppression, and white privilege, which will be exemplified in this paper in order to uncover the race relations evident within this film. Although we are separated during the week, we would hardly see each other. Deep down, they are the reason why I look forward to Fridays and Sundays. These days are not Just any ordinary day for my family because we get to come to gather and have fun we bond as any other normal family dose. Another reason why my family is important to me is because my mother is my motivation to finish the week she is the first person I see in the morning and the last person I see at night. My Mother and I are the only ones that live in Storm Lake, so it is very hard and stressful sometimes because we really do not see each other due to her working schedule. My mother works from 8:00 AM to 9:00 pM, every week except on Fridays. So during the rest of the week, I feel like I am alone all the time. Every day, I do the same thing, get out of school and go home. The house would feel so empty and silenced. Just me with my soul normally feeling bored and depressed It's all that comes to my mind when there is no one to talk to. Mondays for me are the longest I feel that the day won't even end from all the chores I have to do; taking out the trash , washing the dishes to making dinner. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfectessay, story, letter, and assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me improve. Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on more often. They always told me they are the essentials of everything thing. Even though I disliked both at a young age as I grew older I preferred writing because I can always change the way I write and write from my point of view, really be creative with it and prove my point. Growing up I always loved writing short stories especially scary stories. I always was creative with them and even made them realistic. To write an essay I usually have a couple of steps writing an outline, and the thesis a draft and finally a final draft. The most difficult part about this is writing the thesis because the whole essay revolves the thesis because it summarizes the whole essay. At the end of some essays, I had to use citations to do that there were many websites that helped me cite sources such as easybib which was a really simple process. So, citing sources was one of the easiest things about writing the essay. Writing to a teacher is way more complex then writing to a fried or a family member. Writing to a teacher is way more complex, I must make sure that everything is on point or it reaches the state of protection. Which is having the right format, a great thesis and really conveying the point of the essay. Writing to a friend or a family member is much easier I usually don't focus on grammatic errors or writing a perfect thesis. Today some of us don't Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I view human struggle as a catalyst for unity, in various degrees because in the face of adversary, we are naturally inclined to confide in others, seeking what we need to rise above certain circumstances. To elevate and uplift is directly connected towards my need to care for others, which has been a driving force behind my decision to enter the helping profession. Becoming arrogant due to your status may lead clients to feel uncomfortable approaching you (Corey&Corey, 2007). It's important as helpers to remain humble and to avoid putting ourselves on a pedestal because when we do, we may reinforce oppression that our clients may feel by our status. The need to provide answers is a need that I aim to fulfill when dealing with clients. Whenever people came to me for advice, I felt as if it was my obligation to provide the right answers, because if I can't, who will? The Importance of Physical Activity Essay Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but when started at a young age, it can set up good habits for life. Sometimes however, people do not take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be detrimental to their health. Obesity is the condition of being seriously overweight. It is now considered a global health epidemic by the World Health Organization (2000) (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). It is because of this high level of cognitive function that physical activity and nutrition are extremely important (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). They affect the child's physical wellbeing in terms of energy levels, growth and the ability to concentrate (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). As children grow they continue to need physical activity. One of the methods of exercise that is popular with children in the middle childhood age is rough and tumble play or 'play fighting' (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Unfortunately, this sort of play is often discouraged by schools because of the possibility that someone may become injured. (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers must find the balance between protecting children from getting hurt and allowing them to run and jump to release the copious amounts of energy that they have to burn (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Another unfortunate hindrance to physical activity in schools is the notion that physical activity takes away from time that could be used for academic studies. This is unjustified however, because children of this age group are unable to sit and concentrate for long periods of time without being able to get up and move (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2010). Teachers can play a large role when it comes to addressing and preventing obesity. Smart Goals Essay Smart Goals Essay Vanessa Goins Grand Canyon University MGT–605 (MGT–605–0103) Leadership Professor Andree Swanson March 21, 2013 Out of the three goals, (Personal, educational, and professional) I chose two of the goals that I am focusing on and that is my personal and educational goals. For my personal goals, I want to create a big picture of what I plan to do in life. Then I want to break them down in order to reach my goals, then once I have them together, then I would start working on them to achieve them. For example(Specific and Measurable goals), I plan on finding a job that has great benefits and the best rate of pay, and one that does not require working on weekends(Monday–Friday only), and not working overtime....show more content... I plan on earning my Master's Degree within a year of Graduation. While I am currently in school, I will rely on my instructors, academic counselors, graduation team, the GCU Online Library, and the school's other resources that will give me additional help when I need them. If I feel lost or a subject seems too difficult, then I will ask e–mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not stressed with taking online classes. I know that I will be successful if I always ask and seek help here at GCU. After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is "The Enthusiastic Beginner" (Low Competence/High Commitment). I would be enthusiastic and be highly committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in school on certain levels in my program, but at the same time, I would and still do not yet know all of the ropes yet. Right now I consider myself a very curious, inexperienced person who does quite have the skills required for the job in hand or the things that I have learned in school so far, but I am yet hopeful that I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future. • 14. Challenges That I Face As Writer Essay As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these challenges with each piece they write. Writers often face certain...show more content... I am looking to improve on this challenge as a writer by focusing on explaining my quotes and explanations in a more supportive way that relates back to the thesis. Writing can be improved upon endlessly by minimizing your challenges as a writer. In writing an essay I also struggle with incorporating clear topic sentences and connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis statement. This struggle is based on last years' experience with writing essays. This struggle can be improved upon by concentrating on what exactly my thesis is stating and building my sentences to relate and explain the thesis further. Improving on this will allow my writing ability to increase and help me become a more successful writer. When composing an essay, or journal entry, or just plain writing, I struggle as a writer with avoiding awkward or wordy phases in my written work. This struggle is yet again based on last year's experience and feedback from my English class. Improvement with this struggle can be made by the following strategies: reading over my paper more carefully, avoiding the use of words that sound intelligent but don't flow with the paper, and editing my paper with peers. Recognizing this struggle and following these strategies would improve my writing. Writers develop strategies that help them to overcome or improve upon their struggles and challenges in their writing. As a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them. For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay About My English Class I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. • 17. Therapy Essay Therapy Today many people seek professional therapy or counseling for a limited amount of time in order to deal with different life crises. Others seek professional help for the majority of their lives in order to deal with a psychological disorder. After reading this chapter on Therapy, I learned that this was not always the case, and that the way our society views therapy, and the meaning of therapy, has changed dramatically of the years. This chapter not only explains the evolution of therapy, it explores the different therapeutic approaches. I found chapter thirteen to be very interesting. Learning about the different types of therapy was very helpful. I chose to write about...show more content... Trephining was the most disturbing picture. I am still amazed that people thought that anything whatsoever could be solved by chiseling away at a person's head. The picture of the skull was extremely disturbing: I cannot even fathom how horrible it would have been to be a patient of such practices. Also one would think that after the first gaping hole in a person's head with no results, the chiseling would stop. However it is obvious by the number of holes in the skull that this was a procedure that was tried multiple times on one patient. Other than the trephined skull, I also found it unusual that bloodletting was such a common practice. It was particularly troubling to learn that it was used for treating mania, which is something I have experienced. All of the information on the different types of therapies has helped me to more fully understand psychology. This chapter is dedicated to explaining the current methods of treating people with psychological disorders in order to help them through a rough time in life. This chapter on therapy shows the side of psychology that is the result of the hard work of a multitude of psychologists and doctors. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, which entitles me to long hours of therapy to help me understand and deal with my illness. Although I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. My Experience In Counselling My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back then I was a part of the people who believed in the myths surrounding counselling, back then it was my last option but I can still look back and say that I took that decision on my own and I was prepared to face resistance which I did, in the form of my parents who thought that it was an option for people who had gone 'mad'. Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my absolute disappointment, the session was useless and at times even offensive to me. The counsellor asked me my age and started telling a long list of problems I may be facing. She didn't stop there and then asked me about my weight and any problems that I may be having...show more content... The first of which are issues that are personal to me, I realise that there are experiences in my past that may hinder me as a counsellor the most important of which is my inability to maintain eye contact with another person which wasn't an issue in the past years but in the counselling session might convey a very negative impression to the client for they may interpret it as my disinterest. This issue has prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the relevance and importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also realised how unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with or without you being aware about them. There are many areas that I need to work on expect this and the major among them is my competence as a counsellor, I still need to develop various professional skills that I will be required to employ in the counselling session and that is something I believe I will gain from my course. The most important thing that believe I need to work on are my own beliefs about counselling, for a long time I didn't realise that despite being trained for becoming a counsellor I never realised that even to me counselling seemed appropriate as the last option, a choice you make when all else fails and also that with time things will eventually get better and you don't need therapy to work through it. Both of these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained more objective knowledge of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is embracing a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in comparison to if you let it blow to proportion that may severely Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Asking For Help Essay Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of my most sabotaging behaviors. I find it incredibly difficult to say a three–word phrase. When it comes to assisting others, I have no problem lending a helping hand, but I cannot tell anyone that "I need help." In writing this paper I hope to recognize the roots of my problem and adopt a plan to aid me in overcoming this negative behavior. After I took the self–assessment and received a low score in the area of interdependence, I began considering options for overcoming my hesitation so that I may become a successful student. The first strategy is to learn that I cannot do everything by myself. Typically, I never ask for...show more content... We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need someone to explain something discussed in Psychology class today and that person may need the favor returned for English. Working together and helping others is important in almost every area of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a key factor in being successful in college. In order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish that, he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student does not understand something and refuses to ask for help when it is readily available, they are only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is more knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead to total understanding.
