The film "The Help" (2011), is a story based on the daily lives of prominent white women and the
relationships with their African–American housemaids in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s
Civil Rights movement in America. A well–to–do white woman and central character in this film,
Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, aspires to be a journalist and decides to write and publish an exposГ©
of the stories of the housemaids in Jackson to achieve this goal, however, only two maids, Aibileen
Clark and Minny Jackson are willing to discuss their experiences with her. The other maid's in
Jackson resist telling Skeeter their stories, fearing the punishments they would endure if the
authorities were to find out. In spite of this, after the malicious arrest of one of their befriended
maids, all of the maids begin to share their experiences, which consist of racial hostility and being
treated as intrinsically subservient to white people. The story Skeeter publishes entitled The Help,
creates a disturbance among the white families in Jackson, by exposing the racism the maids are
faced with, forcing the white families to reflect upon how they have treated their maids. The

The most important thing for me in my life is my family. Although we are separated during the
week, we would hardly see each other. Deep down, they are the reason why I look forward to
Fridays and Sundays. These days are not Just any ordinary day for my family because we get to

family is important to me is because my mother is my motivation to finish the week she is the first

Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on

received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays
writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about

while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,

Trephining was the most disturbing picture. I am still amazed that people thought that anything
whatsoever could be solved by chiseling away at a person's head. The picture of the skull was
extremely disturbing: I cannot even fathom how horrible it would have been to be a patient of such
practices. Also one would think that after the first gaping hole in a person's head with no results, the
chiseling would stop. However it is obvious by the number of holes in the skull that this was a
procedure that was tried multiple times on one patient. Other than the trephined skull, I also found it
unusual that bloodletting was such a common practice. It was particularly troubling to learn that it
was used for treating mania, which is something I have experienced.

My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back then I was a
part of the people who believed in the myths surrounding counselling, back then it was my last
option but I can still look back and say that I took that decision on my own and I was prepared to
face resistance which I did, in the form of my parents who thought that it was an option for people
who had gone 'mad'. Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my

We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need
someone to explain something discussed in Psychology class today and that person may need the
favor returned for English. Working together and helping others is important in almost every area
of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I
realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would
employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve
their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not

Ask them which animals they like etc., and if they show an interest in a particular animal or toy,
take their lead in elaborating as much as possible on what they like and want to do. Always giving
praise and being positive in body language. Hugs and cuddles and allowing them to sit on my lap
for comfort to read a book together or just for the contact. Listen carefully to what they are saying
and always comment on what they say. If asking them something, then wait patiently for their
answer, not to answer for them. Repeat what they say even if it just one word and praise them for
speaking. Respond to them if they request your attention by touch or pointing.
For an older child or young person. Perhaps asking them what they like to do at home and whether
they would like to do the same. Perhaps cook something and they can join in and help maybe with
the little ones if they are a little under confident. Listen to everything carefully and always try to
give a positive comment, even if you personally do not agree with their concept.

Firstly, I always talk to the parents to find out as much as I can about the child, their needs, interests,
how much they can say or gestures they make for juice, hunger or toileting. Who they are closest to.
