Empowering employees with a voice is integral to the company’s success. Their daily
experiences bring insights that can improve the processes of the company. With this approach,
you can increase retention rates. Continue reading for practical strategies for making employees
feel heard!
1. Implement an Open-Door Policy
Employees deserve the freedom of open dialogue among themselves, regardless of their roles.
Create an open-door policy that allows them to share thoughts on company procedures. But,
only announcing an open-door policy might not be enough for hesitant new hires. Thank
employees for contributing even if their views don't align with company interests. Turn
disagreements into learning experiences by explaining why suggestions won't be implemented.
It will make their expertise valuable learning experiences rather than wasted efforts!
2. Listen, but also Take Action.
Listening is essential, but taking the right actions after listening is also critical. It may not be vital
to act upon every suggestion raised by your team; you must consider their input. If any
employee recommendations or complaints merit action on your part, devise a strategy and
implement them. Technology can provide targeted activities that promote employee
engagement through smaller steps. It will show that you value their suggestions by acting upon
them. Your employees will feel that their voices matter.
3. Pay Attention to Nonverbal Cues
Employees often suppress their emotions to remain focused or avoid confrontation. But they
may suddenly submit their resignation without warning. Therefore, leaders must be attentive to
both verbal and nonverbal cues that emerge. Did you notice an extrovert employee suddenly
becoming more reserved? There can be some reasons behind it, including politics. You should
regularly check with your employees how they perceive the work environment. It can leave an
enormous impact on their retention and loyalty.
4. Consider Internal Interviews
