2. Introduction.
A population is all the organisms that both belong to
the same group or species living in the same
geographical area.
Population growth is related to:
•Birth rates.
•Death rates
• migration
Rate of natural increase = Birth rate – Death rate
3. Demography is a study of human
populations: their size, composition,
distribution across place and the process
through populations change.
5. Phase 1: 1905 – 35
High birth and death rate, so consequently low
population growth.
Phase 2: 1936 - 70
High birth rate and decreased death rate. So high
natural increase.
Phase 3: 1971 - 2005
Fall in birth and death rate and decline in natural
increase.
Phase 4: 2006 - 40
If the birth and death rate remains low, there would be a
low natural increase(stable state).
7. Reasons for high birth rate.
Child labour is very common in Pakistan
Early marriages increase the span of
reproductivity
Family planning programmes receive
strong opposition on religious grounds
Strong desire for son
High illiteracy rate
Migration- 1.8million Afghan refugees
migrated to Pakistan after the Afghan
miracle
Inconsistent government policies
8. Ways to control population.
Welfare programmes should be strictly
put into actionEducation and better
living standards should be provided to
the rural areas
Support of Ulemas should be gained
in this prospect
Migration rate must be controlled
Avoid early marriages.
Awareness campaigns should be
conducted
9. Reasons for high death rates.
Poor medication facilities
Unhygienic conditions
High infant mortality rate
Improper sewage disposal
Shortage of food supply
Less use of life saving drugs
