and is one of the first picture books intended

3. After defeating Czech princes at the battle on White Hill near Prague in 1620,
Czech people have to convert again to Catholicism (official religion of the
Hapsburg dynasty). People who resisted were forced to leave abroad. The
most famous refugee was Jan Amos Komensky. He was a religious leader of
Czech Brotherhood Church (reform church) and a passionate defender of
education.
4. Comenius´s texts inspired many supporters to fight for freedom. Alfons
Mucha, Czech artist, painted Comenius´s last year of life. In the painting he is
sitting on a chair on the coast in Netherlands in Naarden. At the front are his
supportes and they look on a flame in the lantern. And they are expecting his
death. While other people are having fun and drinking.
