3. Thai Literature
Thai literature was influenced by
Indian culture
The first piece of literature was
the Stone Inscription of King
Ramkhamhaeng
In 1942 Thailand changed its
government from a monarchy to a
democratic system in which
authors began to step outside of
the narrow limits they had set for
novels that were written.
The late 1950’s to the early 1960’s
politics were in a Dark Age after
World War II resulting in the
restriction of press freedom.
Some of the most famous writers
in Thailand include Yakhop and
M.R. Kukrit Pramoj.
4. Thai Dance
Thailand is comprised of a wide range of dances originating from various parts of the
Thailand Regions.
In the Northern Region, one of the well known dances is the Sword Dance. The
Sword Dance is a dance inspired by an ancient martial art. It represents the strength
and courage needed to be a warrior. The dancers have swords that they balance on
different parts of their bodies. While balancing the swords, they are fighting off their
rival with a sword sheath.
In the Southern Region, a well known dance is The Nora. The Nora’s origin is from
different legends with various versions. The choreography is made up of 12 positions
