- 4. Who is teaching this course?
- 5. Which topics are covered in this course? What sort of ideas does each chapter hold?
- 6. Chapter 2: Getting started - Topics include why genealogy reference questions are different, Five basic steps to answer any genealogy reference question, advice for beginning searchers and why the census is the place to start.
- 7. Chapter 3 Types of evidence – Topics include finding and using the Social Security Death Index, probate information, and types of records including property, military, naturalization, school, employment, and medical data.
- 8. Chapter 4 Organizing– Topics include using forms, working with pedigrees and group sheets, formatting standards, research notes, logs and filing systems.
- 9. Chapter 5 Evaluating– Topics include evaluating primary , secondary, original, and derivative sources (and understanding that jargon!)
- 10. Chapter 6 Discovering– Topics include using software, comparing research features, finding online tools, exploring databases and avoiding scams.
- 11. Chapter 7: Hitting a wall– Topics include what to do when searchers “hit a wall", organizations /pros who help, tricks and tips, and common MISSTEAKS.
- 12. Chapter 8: Gateways– Topics include potential partners , getting the word out, custom brochures, your OPAC, books, databases and links for your collection
- 13. Chapter 9: Programming– Topics include grants , activities and projects to launch in your library
- 14. Chapter 10: Resources This course is loaded with readings, links and bibliographies to direct you on to the best information available
