32. Getty Cuts Pay for Editorial Contributors - 2011
Getty has announced a take-it-or-leave-it rate cut for its editorial contributors
under a new contract that specifies 35 percent royalties for all sales. Under
current contracts that will soon expire, Getty pays photographers 50 percent for
some sales, and 35 percent for others.
Photographers who don’t sign the contract will be terminated when their
current contracts expire.
The agency notified photographers of the changes on November 9, giving them
30 days to sign the new contract.
!
The agency told photographers that the new contract terms will enable Getty
“to more easily modify content use across more and new license models,
products, services and selling environments, including subscriptions, high-
volume customer deals and new or emerging pricing, licensing and payment
models.”

33. Gaga demands ownership of gig photos
!
Lady Gaga has demanded rights to professional photographs taken on her Monsters Ball tour.
Clearly not raking in enough cash from topping the charts the world over with her current hit 'Born
This Way', Gaga is now said to be issuing small websites with demands for ownership of all photos
taken of her on stage. However, it has also been suggested that she may allow more established
photographers escape having to sign over the rights to their work.
The suggestion that Gaga will take income from photographers from smaller publications and sites
has angered many, with poorly paid snappers set to lose out.
"Typically the person who has the least leverage gets the worst release," says photographer and
intellectual property lawyerDavid Atlas in an article in Rolling Stone magazine. "Maybe there's a
photographer that she likes who won't have to sign the release form, but the people who get paid
$125 to hang out for four hours at a concert have to sign this release.
"So on top of getting paid very little, they have no ongoing revenue stream from these photos
whatsoever."
Gaga, however, is not the first artist to issue such demands - with Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters said
to take a similar stance.
