1. Android Dominates as Budget Tablets Flood Vietnam: IDC

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, June 14, 2013 – According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Tablet
Tracker, Vietnamese tablet shipments in 1Q13 grew at 28% QoQ and 130% YoY to 130,608
units.
Fueling this growth were budget Android tablets targeted at the low-cost market, under brand
names like POP, Coby and Cutepad.
"A flood of inexpensive Android tablets gave the Vietnam market the boost it needed to continue
growing,” says Võ Lê Tâm Thanh, Senior Market Analyst, Mobile Devices at IDC Vietnam.
"Although Android was the top OS, Samsung suffered the most business impact from this influx
of budget tablets in the first quarter of 2013, but we expect the vendor to bounce back strongly
over the rest of the year.”
He explains that on the other hand, Apple had no such concerns as it maintained a healthy lead
over other vendors in Vietnam.
Daniel Pang, ASEAN Research Manager for Client Devices Research at IDC Asia/Pacific
comments, "The tablet market has tremendous room for growth in Vietnam, as it has been
relatively slow to take off when compared to its ASEAN neighbors. With many Vietnamese
consumers still buying desktop PCs, there is time and opportunity for both tablet and notebook
vendors to grab a slice of the pie.”
