OVERVIEW OF ELECTION PROCESS
March 2014
Overview of Election Process
The IPC Nominations Committee will contact interested Executive Office
nominees immediately to provide further information on the positions described
on the next slides.
All nominations should be submitted by Friday, March 21 to:

Alumni chosen by the Nominations Committee to participate in the IPC Election
for Executive Officers will be asked to submit the following:
 Biography including details on educational background, profession, and
volunteer activities (approx. 150 - 175 words)
 Statement of interest of why nominee is running and how they plan to make
a difference within IPC and Brown (approx. 200 - 250 words)
 Digital photo

Criteria for Nominees
The following criteria is desired for all nominees for
an IPC Executive Officer position:
 Proven leadership while at Brown, in IPC, Brown
Alumni Association and/or professional life
 Proven reliability, communications skills and ability
to work well in team environment
 Active participant in some form of Brown or IPC
network
 Ability to commit to at least 4 hours per month of
IPC service

Executive Committee
President-Elect (4 year commitment):
 Serves two years in the role of President-Elect,
followed by two years as President
 Acts in a supporting role to the President in
managing operations or a special focus on IPC
special projects such as overseeing events and
programs, board development and recruitment, IPC
chapter relations, etc.
 Works with the President to implement IPC goals
and initiatives

Executive Committee
Treasurer (2 year commitment):
 Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel
 Experience with creating and tracking annual organizational
budgets
 Maintain the integrity of IPC financial operations and records
 Help to shape and guide IPC’s overall financial strategy
 Work closely with the fundraising committee and assist with
fundraising initiatives
 Create fundraising opportunities for special IPC initiatives
 Provide creative ways to generate additional funding for IPC
to support special projects, chapters and student initiatives

Executive Committee
Secretary (2 year commitment):
 Must be proficient with e-mail communication and social
media (Facebook and LinkedIn)
 Responsible for managing communication and outreach
between IPC Board and alumni membership
Experience with drafting and distributing meeting
minutes
 Collaborate closely with the chair of the
Communications Committee in the maintenance of the
website, newsletters, social media, and other forms of
communication

Board of Governors – Committees
The IPC Committee Chair is appointed by the incoming President and
works in conjunction with IPC Executive Officers to lead, manage and
guide the work of the committee and its alumni volunteers:
 Determine the vision and objectives of the committee
 Manage, motivate, recruit, and assign tasks to committee volunteers
 Work to ensure that the committee stays focused in achieving its
goals through the assignment of manageable and meaningful action
steps
 Report to the full Board on the progress of the committee
 Collaborate with Alumni Relations to achieve shared goals
 Prepare and present transitional report at the end of term

Board of Governors – Committees
IPC is seeking volunteers for the following committees:
 Communications (includes website, social media,
newsletter, etc.)
 Alumni and Student Relations (includes mentoring)
 Local Chapter Development and Support (includes NYC,
Chicago, DC, Atlanta, etc.)
 Fundraising (includes corporate and individual
donations)
 Matriculation Campaign for Prospective Students
 Black Alumni Reunion 2016

Executive Committee Treasurer (2 year commitment):  Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel  Experience with creating and tracking annual organizational budgets  Maintain the integrity of IPC financial operations and records  Help to shape and guide IPC’s overall financial strategy  Work closely with the fundraising committee and assist with fundraising initiatives  Create fundraising opportunities for special IPC initiatives  Provide creative ways to generate additional funding for IPC to support special projects, chapters and student initiatives 5

Executive Committee Secretary (2 year commitment):  Must be proficient with e-mail communication and social media (Facebook and LinkedIn)  Responsible for managing communication and outreach between IPC Board and alumni membership Experience with drafting and distributing meeting minutes  Collaborate closely with the chair of the Communications Committee in the maintenance of the website, newsletters, social media, and other forms of communication 6

Board of Governors – Committees The IPC Committee Chair is appointed by the incoming President and works in conjunction with IPC Executive Officers to lead, manage and guide the work of the committee and its alumni volunteers:  Determine the vision and objectives of the committee  Manage, motivate, recruit, and assign tasks to committee volunteers  Work to ensure that the committee stays focused in achieving its goals through the assignment of manageable and meaningful action steps  Report to the full Board on the progress of the committee  Collaborate with Alumni Relations to achieve shared goals  Prepare and present transitional report at the end of term 7

Board of Governors – Committees IPC is seeking volunteers for the following committees:  Communications (includes website, social media, newsletter, etc.)  Alumni and Student Relations (includes mentoring)  Local Chapter Development and Support (includes NYC, Chicago, DC, Atlanta, etc.)  Fundraising (includes corporate and individual donations)  Matriculation Campaign for Prospective Students  Black Alumni Reunion 2016 8
