This document provides guidance on how to write and teach a case study for business and entrepreneurship education. It discusses that a case study demonstrates an identified situation, selected solution, and final results. The key steps in writing a case study are identifying the issue, establishing needs, initial contact, data collection, writing, and release. It is important to identify the purpose and intended learning outcomes, understand the audience/students, and decide what information to include. When writing, a case study should be organized with a narrative structure and presentation that conveys the complex issues involved.

What is a Case Study?
A case study demonstrates how a specific situation was initially identified, which solution was
selected to resolve the issue, and a summary of the final results.
Case writing is a process that begins with the decision to use a case and ends with the review and
revision of the case after use of the case in class.
Steps in case writing :
Step 1: Case Origin
Identify the issues : very difficult.
Step 2: Establishing the needs
The search for specific issues, ideas, and individuals or organizations that might supply
the case information (many orgnaisations are not willing to provide information).
Step 3: Initial Contact
The establishment of access to material on the case subject
Step 4: Data Collection
The gathering of the relevant information for the case is very difficult and time
consuming process. You have to take appointment with those who may provide the data. You have
to clarify your purpose.
Step 5: The Writing Process
The organization and the presentation of the data and information start it as soon as
possible. It is better to be quick and fast and do as detailed as possible in the beginning.
Step 6: Release
The obtaining of permission from the appropriate individuals to use the case for
educational purposes. You may release case study through your institution or through agencies like
European Case Clearning Agency. You may also publish it in journals like Vikalpa etc. You may
also upload your case studies on website for reviews and share it with other academicians. I upload
my case studies on www.scribd.com for the benefit of most persons. Any person can download
these case studies and use it. zz
