“ The return on investment or ROI calculation is critical to moving these projects forward. We now have many examples of cities using a wide range of applications that save money or generate revenue for the city.” We have well established Mesh Customers: APPLICATIONS and ROI Solution: Mesh Network for 18 sq mi. - Providence Deployed 511 MotoMesh Devices covering major mobility corridors Currently deployed 400 users on the network (integrated PCMCIA) Started in Sept 2005, completed May 2006 Current Applications: Instant access to preemptive intelligence: criminal databases, Amber Alerts, federal mug shots and fingerprint systems Download building floor plans on the way to incident Video surveillance - Live video of traffic situations from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). ROI: ANNUAL PERSONNEL EFFICIENCY SAVINGS - Total Annual Personnel Efficiency Savings: $1,009,375 Police: $375,000 Fire: $125,000 Public Works: $450,000 Code Enforcement: $31,250 Other: $28,125 Solution: Mesh Network for 10 sq mi. – Buffalo MI Deployed 91 MotoMesh Devices covering major mobility corridors Currently deployed 27 users on the network (20 PCMCIA, 7 VMM) Current Applications: Real-time Field Reporting Access of maps showing locations of utilities, depth, type of installation, location of valves and shutoffs, fuses, most likely points of failure, date of installation and numerous other bits of information important for maintenance and location tasks. GPS data verification makes these maps very accurate. Meter Reading Reports done in this fashion include: Traffic Citations, Impound Forms, Crash Reports, Initial Complaint Reports, and Preliminary Investigation Reports PC Enfors, Internet, VoloView, On-Line Request Partner, Wonderware (SCADA Water/Wastewater), Yukon Advanced Energy Services, Outlook, ERSI Arc GIS: Used for locating and important building data. ROI: Utilities (Meter Reading), Streets, Parks and Engineering: Using data provided by the utilities department, engineering and our street/park department we can extrapolate what our anticipated savings are if we obtain and implement the Wireless Mobile Data solution. Total Savings: $43,016. Police Department: Using data provided by the police department we can save at least 50% of the time spent on data entry to an automatic process if we implement the Wireless Mobile Data solution with existing in squad technology. Total Savings: $19,000. The estimates in the analysis do not contemplate growth in calls for service or raw land quantities nor the effects of population growth. The return on investment will be higher but is difficult to quantify. Solution: MotoMesh DUO Network for 29 sq mi. Objectives : . City-Wide, Standards-Based Broadband Network 802.11b/g WiFi 2.4GHz, 5.xGHz, 4.9GHz Purchased approx 700 MotoMesh DUO Devices Plan to deploy approx 100 users on the network Current Applications: Wireless Communication for Public Access T1 replacement Mobile Public Safety Automated Meter Reading (AMR) System 40,000 water meters Aclara RF (Hexagram) Fixed Network Parking Meters – Solar powered, multi-space with WiFi backhaul Municipal WiFi – Free outdoor Internet access ROI : $23M Savings over 15 years Annual Cost Savings: AMR $579,855 Parking Meters $368,322 Wireless Communication $295,500 Free WiFi
