When solid A is dissolved in liquid B- the temperature rises- What is.docx

When solid A is dissolved in liquid B, the temperature rises. What is occuring to the enthalpy and entropy of solid A as the process occurs? Entropy A Enthalpy exothermic/AH(-) Enthalpy Entropy increases/AS(+) Entropy decreases/AS () Enthalpy endothermic/ AH(+) C. 13.
Solution
Since temperature increases due to dissolution of solid A in liquid B. This means heat is being released during the dissolution of solid A and thus the process is exothermic and hence ?H is negative (-).
Entropy increases when disorder increases or randomness increses. When the solid A is dissolved in liquid B, solid A particles become more free to move around as compared to the solid phase when they were bound together more tightly. This means randomness increases. Hence entropy of solid A increases and thus ?S is positive (+).
Comment if any doubt.
