And it’s been a HARD year for US all!
3. The cruise ship Costa Concordia lies stricken off the shore of the
JAN
Italian island of Giglio. The ship struck a rock and turned on its
13 side on January 13, killing 32 people from eight countries.
4. Anders Behring Breivik arrives for his court hearing in Oslo, Norway. He
FEB was sentenced to 21 years in prison on August 24 for killing 77 people in
06 two terror attacks in Norway in 2011. Eight people died in a bombing in
Oslo, while 69 young people were shot to death on nearby Utoya island.
5. Buddhist monks offer prayers for victims of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and
MAR tsunami at Kitaizumi beach in Minamisoma, Fukushima prefecture, some 25 km
11 (15 miles) from the tsunami-crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant
March 10, 2012, a day before the disaster's one-year anniversary.
6. A Sudan Armed Forces soldier lies dead in a pool of oil next to a leaking oil
APR facility. He had engaged in heavy fighting with Sudan People's Liberation Army
17 troops from South Sudan.

11. A rescue worker carries a child in Yiliang County, China. At least 80 people were
SEP killed and more than 800 others were injured after two earthquakes jolted
9 southwest China.
12. Taxis sit in a flooded lot in Hoboken, New Jersey, after Superstorm Sandy
OCT devastated the region. The storm slammed ashore near Atlantic City, New
30 Jersey, after forming in the Caribbean and sweeping northward, killing 182
people from Haiti to Canada.
13. Men on motorcycles drag the body of a man through the streets of Gaza City.
NOV The men dragging the body claimed it was the body of a collaborator and an
20 Israeli spy. Hamas and Israel agreed to a cease-fire on November 21 after eight
days of round-the-clock warfare.
14. State police personnel lead children away from Sandy Hook Elementary School
DEC in Newtown, Connecticut. A gunman killed 18 children and six adults at the
14 school before he died; two more children died later at a hospital.
