MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Holiday Safety
1. During the month of November we'll celebrate two significant holidays, Veterans' Day and
Thanksgiving. As we go into these holidays it is important to remember that time off from work does not
mean time away from using safety in our planning and preparation.
2. On the 11 November we will get an opportunity to celebrate Veterans Day. We will get a chance to
pay our respect to the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to defending our Great Nation.
During this time of reflection and gratitude for their service and sacrifice, it is impo1iant to honor them by
thinking safe and not making any unnecessary sacrifices of our own. Please remember that as well as
celebrating the veterans that have dedicated so much to us, we also have to honor them by being cautious of
hazards that can be avoided.
3. On 28 November we will have the oppmiunity to celebrate Thanksgiving. We will get a chance to be
thankful for all the many blessings that life has brought us. Because this is the second holiday in
November, the chance of accidents due to complacency will be increased. Be advised that every year
during Thanksgiving accidents happen because of carelessness. If your going to cook, make sure you cook
at the right temperatures and have a fire extinguisher ready. If you're going to travel ensure that you get
enough rest and take routine rest stops. If you're going to drink make sure you do it responsibly and have a
designated driver.
4. Holidays are for celebration, not for causing casualities. Every year, especially during holidays,
hospitals are filled with injuries caused by careless and risky acts. Accidents not only cause personal
tragedies, but also reduce manpower. Personnel accountability today is more imperative than anytime
before. Whether you are planning to travel, shop, pmiy, or entertain, be mindful that "Accidents Are
Waiting To Happen" and that "Accidents Don't Take Holidays."
5. Furthermore, during these holidays, you need to recognize and adhere to safety precautions to include
using caution when using Korean roadways and making wise use of the "buddy system". Ensure that your
time-off is not marred by the tragedy of insensible accidents and injuries. The challenge for each uf yuu is
to make a personal commitment for your safety and health, as well as that of others.
