  5. 5. LOCATION Anoia County is situated in Central Catalonia. It is the fourteenth largest county of Catalonia, with an area of 866.3 km 2 . Its capital is Igualada.
  6. 6. PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY Anoia County has lots of mountains. The most important mountain in the county is Montserrat Mountain.

  12. 12. <ul><li>2. Montserrat Natural Park (El Bruc) </li></ul>This is Montserrat Natural Park. In the foreground, there are some trees and the monastery. In the background there are a lot of mountains. We can see the effects of erosion.

MANRESANA TOWER <ul><li>There was a battle between Catalans and </li></ul><ul><li>Austrians against French and Spanish. </li></ul><ul><li>The battle took place in Els Prats </li></ul><ul><li>de Rei. It was part of a war to </li></ul><ul><li>decide the next King of Spain in </li></ul><ul><li>1711. </li></ul><ul><li>The tower was used in the war. </li></ul>

ABRIC ROMANI <ul><li>The Abric Romaní is an archaeological site </li></ul><ul><li>located in Capellades. </li></ul><ul><li>There is a deposit of 17 feet of soil which has </li></ul><ul><li>been excavated. So far there are 27 </li></ul><ul><li>archaeological levels which correspond to an </li></ul><ul><li>occupation by Middle Paleolithic Neanderthal </li></ul><ul><li>men. </li></ul><ul><li>It is estimated to be about 56,000 years old. </li></ul>

THE THREE WISE MEN <ul><li>On the night of January 5 th there is a </li></ul><ul><li>festival in which the kings of the East give </li></ul><ul><li>children gifts for their good behavior </li></ul><ul><li>during the year. </li></ul><ul><li>The kings arrive in a cavalcade with </li></ul><ul><li>assistants and travel through the town. </li></ul><ul><li>It is attended by more than 5,000 people in Igualada. </li></ul>

One of the most famous in </li></ul><ul><li>Catalonia is that played in Calaf. </li></ul><ul><li>The plot is about the birth of Jesus and </li></ul><ul><li>several stories of shepherds and dialogues </li></ul><ul><li>that recall the first Christmas. </li></ul>

THE LIVING NATIVITY <ul><li>It represents the birth of </li></ul><ul><li>Jesus of Nazareth through </li></ul><ul><li>characters alive. </li></ul><ul><li>The representations are </li></ul><ul><li>usually performed during the </li></ul><ul><li>months of December </li></ul><ul><li>and January, coinciding </li></ul><ul><li>with Christmas. </li></ul><ul><li>It ’ s very famous in Odena and </li></ul><ul><li>Prats de Rei. </li></ul>

THE CHRISTMAS LOG <ul><li>It ’ s a log that comes in December . </li></ul><ul><li>Children obtain gifts from it in the evening </li></ul><ul><li>of December 24th. </li></ul><ul><li>In order to give them gifts children have to sing a song and hit the trunk. </li></ul><ul><li>The log must be covered with a blanket. </li></ul>
  40. 40. CALAF MARKET The Lord of the village gave the citizens of Calaf the privilege of having a market every Saturday. One day the town people went to the market and a cold wind began to blow. The words were frozen and the people felt silent. When the sun started to come out the words were unfrozen and then all the people was talking at once and you could not understand anything.
  41. 41. THE DRUMMER OF EL BRUC In 1808, Napoleon's army intended to attack El Bruc village. A child went to the Mountain of Montserrat to play the drum. The echoing sound of the drum made the French army fled because they were afraid.
  42. 42. CONCLUSION <ul><li>This subject has been very interesting, because </li></ul><ul><li>we have improved our English level (for example </li></ul><ul><li>we have learned many new words). </li></ul><ul><li>We have also expanded our knowledge of </li></ul><ul><li>Anoia County. </li></ul>
