23. Popular Army Base The Republican created a training base/camp, during the spring of 1938 in Pujalt, Alta Anoia. The base/ camp was necessary to prepare young Republican soldiers for fighting. The tió enters in homes a few weeks before Christmas Day, the children of the house take a stick and start hitting the log while singing a song, somebody puts hand under the blanket and takes a gift. 34. Calaf Market Calaf’s Markets is very well-known in Catalonia, because of its legend. Calaf is a place so cold, that one winter market day, the words people said in the market froze. After a while , the sun shone and the words began to melt and heard all at once then there was a lot of confusion and noise and that is the origin of the famous proverb “it is like Calaf’s Market ”.
35. The Drummer of El Bruc Once upon time around 1808, there was a war between the French and the Catalans. The French attacked twice the village of El Bruc , but a boy who wanted to help started to play his drum as powerfully and loudly as possible and the French fled.Years later they made a statue to honour “ THE DRUMMER OF EL BRUC ”
