3. What is descriptive writing?
A description is a
picture in words that
helps the reader see,
hear, taste, smell, or feel
something that the writer
has experienced.
4. PURPOSE OF DESCRIPTIVE
WRITING:
• To inform a person who does not know
much about the object, place or people being
described.
• Description of things is made in the absence
of those objects.
• Therefore, how much the reader understands
about the object, place or person, depends
on the clarity of your description.
5. DESCRIPTION OF A PIANO
The piano is a musical instrument
played using a keyboard. A normal piano
has 88 keys. The piano usually has a
protective wooden case surrounding the
soundboard and metal strings. Pianos use
the keys to move hammers that hit
strings inside, making a sound. Pianos
come in two basic shapes: grand pianos
and upright pianos. The piano has been

Western classical music. A person who
plays the piano is called a pianist.
