Not all of the 39 songs (32+6+PoPiPo DLC) present in the
PlayStation 3 version of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F are
previewed in this latest trailer for the game. Still, there’s
plenty to look at – it’s over 12 minutes long!
On top of an elongated look at the PS3 version’s six new
songs, the trailer also contains clips from tunes already
included in the PS Vita version. Boy, do these clips look so
much sharper now that the game’s on the PS3!
In an interview the Sega feat. Hatsune Miku Project
development team previously mentioned that in the PS Vita
version of Project Diva f, there were a lot of areas they
ended up rendering using 2D textures due to technological
constraints. For the PS3 version, those areas are now
supposedly rendered with better-looking, 3D textures. Can

At a Microsoft media event here in Singapore we went
hands-on with OverRun, one of two new multiplayer modes
that Gears of War: Judgement is bringing to the table. How
does it play? In a nutshell: You’ve played Gears of War
before, but never in a fashion quite like this.
Truth be told, the OverRun mode is more or less a natural
progression from the Beast mode and improved Horde mode
introduced in Gears of War 3.
In OverRun, one team of five assumes a faction of Coalition
of Gears (CoG) operatives, while the other team (also
with five players) assumes that of the Locusts. This is an
objective-based game mode, and that objective is a generator
that the humans have to protect from the Locust swarm.
Teams will take turn to play as the CoGs and the Locusts in
two consecutive rounds. The time limit for a typical round
is six minutes. Whichever team can bring down the CoGs’
generator the fastest while playing as the Locusts, wins.
Unlike a standard Team Deathmatch setup, each faction
is not a palette swap of the other; instead, both the CoGs
and the Locusts have different classes. Heck, they even have
different numbers of different classes.
On the human side, you pick from four: Engineer, Medic,
Soldier and Scout.
On the Locusts’ side, you have a few more options. Like
the humans, at the start of a round you can only pick from
four classes. But perform well during a match, and you’ll
eventually earn points that you can redeem to use four
additional “power” classes.

By now you may have heard that there’s been some changes
made to the control scheme in Gears of War: Judgement.
Those control changes affect OverRun, too.
Most notably (or notoriously, depending on your
perspective), the Y button now lets you switch between your
two primary weapons.
It appears that in GoW:J you only carry two weapons instead
of four – two primaries, one pistol, and a grenade – in past
instalments.
Part of this change in control scheme is due to the developers
wanting to shift the grenade command to Left Bumper, so
that players can quickly lob one out in dangerous situations,
rather than slowly fumble through the d-pad menus for a few
seconds to bring out that grenade.
Essentially, the control tweaks take away a secondary
weapon (so you have two weapon choices now instead of
three), and remaps the grenade function.
While that doesn’t sound very limiting within the confines
of single-player, in OverRun while I was playing as certain
classes – such as the Engineer on the CoG team – I definitely
wished for the ability to carry a third weapon. Because the
Engineer wields a standard-issue shotgun, and a freaking
blowtorch. And it’s not for melting your enemies’ face off,
which given Gears of War’s pedigree, wouldn’t be that far off
from something you’d expect to happen in this game.
Nope, no awesome face-melting shenanigans here. All you’ll
do with that blowtorch, is to repair structures with.
But having played several rounds of OverRun with other
members of the Singapore press corps, I have to say:
repairing strucutres is easily the most important job on the
CoG team.
Before the Locusts can get to the CoGs’ precious generator,
they must first breach a number of defense mechanisms,
which include spiked fences and other blockades.
Once destroyed, these defense mechanisms will never
respawn again. And so the only way to keep them in place is
to repair them the moment they take damage.
But at the same time, you can’t just focus on repairing
structures; you will need some firepower to kill off the Locust
players before they can focus-fire on a single structure and
overwhelm you.

And while the Engineer does have some offensive
capabilities – before you get down to repairing structures,
you can set-up a turret to put out some cover fire (this
command is mapped to the LB button, and replaces your
grenade throw) – it’s not nearly enough.
For that you’ll need the Soldier and Scout players to do their
job. The Soldier is armed with a Lancer assault rifle along
with the Boom Shot and a “drop ammunition” skill to help
your teammates resupply. Whereas the Scout is armed with
a sniper rifle, a pistol, and a beacon grenade that can map
out enemy positions, and intensify the damage those marked
enemies will receive when shot.
You’ll need a lot of communication and teamwork to prevent
that generator from getting blown-up; as we found out
during the media preview session, it is possible to take
cover somewhere and safely take regular pot-shots at the
generator.
It’s quite clear that the Locusts have the advantage in
OverRun, but that’s by design. You need to eventually give
the Locusts enough firepower to break through the humans’
defense and destroy that generator.
In other words, as the CoGs, you’ll need to actively seek
out Locusts and kill the ones who camp and take pot-shots,
rather than focus on just a defensive strategy.
On the flipside, it may seem that you’d require less teamwork
and communication when playing as the Locusts. And, once
again, this is something we tried – as the Locusts it is
definitely possible to bring down the generator fairly quickly
even if every member on your team is pretty much running
around doing their own team. That’s how powerful the
Locust classes are.
But remember, folks, the clock is ticking. At the end of the
day, winning or losing really comes down to how well you
play the Locust team, really.
And that brings me to what I think is the most beautiful
thing about Gears of War: Judgement’s OverRun mode: it is
designed to appeal to both hardcore and casual GoW players.
The core Gears of War players will appreciate the intricate
strategies that will unfold as they get better and better at
shaving seconds off the clock, as Locusts.
As the humans, they may also develop communication and
teamwork skills almost to the point that they may seem
psychic to the opposing team.
But if you don’t really care about the competitive streak in
games, it’s still a lot of fun to kickback, relax, and play a
game of target practice as the CoG operatives, and a game of
trolling your enemies while on the Locusts’ side.
And that’s just one of the new ways to play Gears of War.
We haven’t even got our paws on the Survival mode (an
improved version of Horde, with Judgement’s new CoG
operative classes), or played much of the new single-player-
slash-co-op campaign yet.
Then there’s the Aftermath mini-campaign, which you can
unlock by clearing Declassified missions.
There’s a lot to look forward to, even if you think you’ve seen
it all in three Gears of War games.
Gears of War: Judgement hits all good video game stores in
Singapore March 19, 2013.

$69.
Gamers who pre-order before March 18 will be entitled to
goodies such as a G.O.W. metal keychain and five in-game

New ‘Ro-Kyu-Bu’ game

This is a good year for Ro-Kyu-Bu fans. Not only is the
second season of the anime coming this summer, but so is
a new PSP game. The game, entitled “Ro-Kyu-Bu! Himitsu
no Otoshi Mono” (The Secret Lost Items), is scheduled to be
released on June 20.
The story revolves around Subaru Hasegawa, a high school
boy who is the coach of an elementary school’s girls’
basketball team. One day, Subaru is walking through town
when he meets Takenaka, the girls’ classmate and the
captain of the boys’ basketball team. In order to prepare for
the tournament coming later that fall, Takenaka suggests
going on a training camp with the girls’ team. Subaru thinks
this is a good idea, but when the time for the training camp
actually comes, he stumbles upon a new mission…
Ro-Kyu-Bu was already adapted into a visual novel for the
PSP in 2011, but it seems like this upcoming game will be
different. According to the developer, Kadokawa Games, this
will be a “Loli Sports Stealth Adventure” game. What kind of
genre is that? Maybe these pictures will give some hints.

In Biohazard Revelations Unveiled Edition, Infernal
mode doesn’t just up the difficulty. It changes the enemies
location, adds in a couple more of them at you for you to
handle, and changes item positions. In the trailer you can
watch Jill get her having a hard time as she tries to battle
her way out, while comparing it to the Normal Mode. A new
enemy, the Wall Blister, a mutation created from the water-
borne T-Abyss virus, is also introduced. This is probably
one of those modes that actually adds replay value to the
experience.
This series bridges the gap between Resident Evil 4 and
Resident Evil 5, unveiling a new adventures for Jill Valentine
and Chris Redfield. Based on Chris Redfield’s last known
GPS coordinates, Jill and her new partner, Parker Luciani
gets involved in a search mission to look for him. They
get sent on board a supposedly abandoned cruise ship in the
Mediterranean which was far from being empty. The ship
hides danger around every corner as Jill and Parker explores
the confined space of the ship and faces a menacing new
horror that emerges.
Biohazard Revelations Unveiled Edition is set for release on
May 21 in North America, May 23 in Japan and May 24 in
Europe for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Windows
PC.

Gears of War: Judgement is
not just a prequel, features
unlockable Aftermath mini-

Gears of War: Judgement, I’ve been telling folks this whole
time, is this spin-off prequel to the Gears of War trilogy
that explores the story of series stalwarts Damon Baird and
Augustus Cole before the main protagonist – Marcus Fenix
– finds and enlists them into his squad.
As of this week, that description is no longer the full story.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s still about Damon Baird and
Augustus Cole before the events of the first Gears of War.
But as Epic Games have revealed this week, after you’re done
with Judgement’s main campaign, this is also a bonus mini-
campaign that tells the story of Baird and Cole
You go about unlocking the Aftermath mini-campaign by
accumulating stars throughout the main campaign, for
skilful performance, such as killing with headshots, et cetera.
For a boost to your campaign stars, you can also take on
Declassification side-missions, which take on an interesting
meaning in the context of the game’s story.
The main campaign in Judgement is told in a series of
flashbacks that explain what happened that led to Baird’s
entire team getting court-martialed and accused of treason.
The flashbacks are presented to gamers based on evidence
publicly aired in the court records – but they’re not exactly
the full story. There are portions in the file marked in black
ink.

When you take on a Declassification side-mission, then,
you are essentially peeling back that black ink, to uncover
what Baird and his team actually encountered. In terms
of gameplay, according to Destructoid, these translate into
harder challenges.
One Declassification turned all the Wretches in a particular
chapter into Lambent Wretches, which interestingly do not
even make their debut in the main trilogy until Gears of war
2, a game that takes place some 15 years after Judgement.
In other words, the Declassified mission is implying that
the Coalition of Gears government had in fact knew about
Lambent Wretches some fifteen years before players, as
Marcus Fenix, would know about them – Lambent Wretches
had existed from the very beginning. For some reason,
however, the government had chose to bury that information
and keep it sealed off from public eyes.
Between Declassified missions and Aftermath, yes, Gears of
War: Judgement isn’t your typical video game prequel. It’s
got a little more than that.

GREE social game ‘Zettai

Anime fans outside Japan may not have had the chance
to play most Japanese social games, but we’re still lucky
because some of these games get adapted into anime. One of
them is Zettai Bouei Leviathan (Total Defense Leviathan) by
GREE. It has been announced that a TV anime adaptation of
this social game will be produced by Gonzo.
GREE is known for its social games released in the
iOS and Android platforms. Previously, its mobile game,
Tanken Driland, was adapted into anime by Toei. It
was also announced that GREE’s creature-raiser game
Odoriko Clinoppe (Dancer Clinoppe) will receive an anime
adaptation.
GREE’s upcoming card battle game Zettai Bouei Leviathan
is set in Aquafall, a mythical world where there is an
abundance of water and green landscapes. The creatures
living in this world are dragons and fairies. Soon, all living
beings are threatened by evil entities from meteorites. Syrup,
a fairy from Aquafall, forms the Aquafall Defence Force and
recruits Leviathan, Bahamut and Jörmungandr, three girls
hailing from the dragon clan.

Are you a fan of stories about teenage vampires? No? Well,
that might be about to change — the anime adaptation of
Yuuki Kodama’s Blood Lad is scheduled to air later this year.
The manga Blood Lad was first serialized in Young Ace
in 2009 and has sold over 800,000 copies. The story is
centered around Staz, a powerful vampire who secretly loves
human culture — especially Japanese anime, manga, and
games. When a Japanese school girl named Fuyumi wanders
into the demon world, Staz freaks out at the opportunity to
talk to a Japanese human, until Fuyumi is eaten by a monster
and turns into a ghost. Afterwards, Staz decides to help her
come back to life, for the sake of visiting the human world.
The upcoming anime is being animated by the studio
Brain Base, which also animated Baccano!, Durarara!!, and
Natsume Yuujinchou.

Doujin game Yume Nikki gets
a novel, manga, and Vocaloid

You may have never heard of the small PC game Yume Nikki,
but you’ll soon have the chance to enjoy it in novel or manga
form.
Yume Nikki was first developed by the doujin (indie) game
developer Kikiyama and released as a free game in 2004. It
soon gained a cult following in Japan, as well as overseas
after an unofficial English version was released.
The game revolves around Madotsuki, a shut-in who
lives in a boring apartment where she does practically
nothing during her waking hours. When she falls asleep,
however, she has dreams in which she travels across
surreal environments and encounters bizarre things, such as
floating, disembodied heads.
The novel adaptation is currently titled, “Yume Nikki:
Anata no Yume ni Watashi wa Inai” (Dream Diary: I Don’t
Exist in Your Dream). The author, Akira, debuted in high
school when he simultaneously won five beginning writer
awards, and he has written several works including the

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki and Sasami-san@Ganbaranai light
novel series. The novel will also include illustrations by Ako
Arisaka, who is well known for her Vocaloid illustrations.
The manga adaptation will be serialized by the Takeshobo’s
online magazine Manga Life Win+. It will feature an original
story written by the Vocaloid composer Machigerita, while
the art will be drawn by Hitoshi Tomizawa, the artist of the
manga Alien Nine.
Furthermore, an image song CD has been announced.
Entitled “A Waltz for Yume Nikki”, it will include songs
composed by Machigerita and performed by the Vocaloid
Aoki Lapis. The CD will be released on April 27 for 1,000 yen
and also come in a limited edition package that includes a
tapestry.

TV anime ‘Fairy Tail’ to end
this March

Are you the type who quits watching a long-running anime
series? If you stopped watching Fairy Tail a long time ago,
then this is the perfect time to pick up where you left off.
Kodansha’s TV Magazine has announced that the anime
adaptation of Hiro Mashima’s shounen fantasy-adventure
manga will end on March 30 in Japan.
The anime series, which started in October 2009, will end
on the 175th episode entitled “Sono Toki Mita Shoujo no Kao
wa” (The Face of the Girl I Saw). Starting on April 6, Fairy
Tail will be replaced with the anime Driland.
Along with the magazine’s announcement is a tweet from the
original creator himself. Interestingly, considering that the
anime is about to end, Mashima says that he’s going to bring
the good news. However, this is not yet the right time for the
announcement so we’ll just have to wait.
The anime series’ story opens with Lucy Heartfilia, a teenage
girl who runs away from home to become part of Fairy Tail,
an infamous mage guild. She meets Natsu Dragneel and his
partner Happy. With Natsu’s help, Lucy becomes part of the
Fairy Tail guild. They soon take on missions together with
two other wizards Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet.

the Omni can be used for more than just games. It can
be used for exercise, job training, virtual movies, virtual
concerts, virtual museums, or any other virtual simulation
you can think of.

Animation Do reveals
swimming commercial,
possibly a new anime

Animation Do, the division of Kyoto Animation responsible
for K-ON! and Tamako Market has aired a new commercial
that may be a preview of a new, manly anime.
Animation Do has a reputation of producing quality anime,
and in this thirty-second swimming commercial, the studio
strays from its recent puni-moe fare and demonstrates its
ability to depict flying water and masculine pecs.
The tag line at the end of the commercial is, “A new
challenge!” Also, Animation Do revealed this picture one
year ago, along with an announcement that they were
working on a hidden project. The tag line in this picture is,
“I’ll show you the difference between you and me!”
Do these catchphrases and the time spent indicate an
upcoming anime, or even a movie?
Although that hasn’t been officially confirmed, Kyoto
Animation has listed the commercial on their website with
the simple title “CM Swimming Video”, along with the staff.
The storyboard and directing were done by Hiroko Utsumi,
and the character designs were done by Futoshi Nishiya,
both of whom are regular members of Animation Do.

‘Danganronpa’ anime

Last year, the official website for the Danganronpa Kibou
no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei anime opened and
revealed its cast and staff. Now, a TV listing has announced
that the murder mystery anime will premiere this summer
in Japan.
Originally released as PSP game by Spike, Danganronpa
Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei is set in
Kibougamine Gakuen, an elite high school that only accepts
students who are the cream of the crop from their respective
fields. However, Makoto Naegi (an ordinary student and
the main protagonist) gets accepted because of a yearly
raffle that lets ordinary students enrol in the school.
Makoto arrives outside the school gates only to lose his
consciousness. Soon, it has been revealed that he is trapped
together with the other students by a sadistic, black and
white bear by the name of Monokuma. “Graduating” is the
only means of getting out. And by “graduating”, Monokuma
means that a student must commit murder without the
others knowing who did it. The real culprit gets to leave while
the rest will be given a death sentence.

Disgaea D2 looks like it may be the biggest installment in the
series yet, with one new character, one old character, and a
new feature revealed.
Disgaea D2 is the newest game by Nippon Ichi Software
in their Disgaea strategy-RPG series. The game is part of
NIS’s celebration of their 20th anniversary, as well as the
10th anniversary of the Disgaea series. The story of Disgaea
D2 returns to its roots, featuring the main characters of the
very first game. Laharl is back, and he’s taken the role of
the Overlord of the Netherworld. However, no one has really

Such was the case for a group of three friends – Aiman (20),
Abigail (19), and Richard (20) – who showed up as early as
3PM in the afternoon to wait, way before the crowds would
gather at the level 2 Atrium in Bugis+.
“We were probably not the first Scandal fans to arrive,
but we were really lucky because we just happened to be
stationed near the entrance to the queue when the lines for
the audition session started forming,” Abigail said.
The trio had been fans of the Japanese pop rock girls band
since about four years ago. As this was not the first time they
had shown up at an autograph session for the group, the
three friends had a good idea of what to expect; in fact, one of
them, Aiman, was also amongst the first in line at a previous
Scandal autograph session here in Singapore, two years ago.
Still, if you thought that showing up for an autograph
session just three or four hours before its scheduled time
of commencement doesn’t sound very hardcore for groupie
behaviour, that’s because it isn’t — the autograph session
was just a small prelude to the main event.
Other Scandal fans that SGCafe spoke to included a group of
members from the Singapore-based unofficial fan club cum
forum, Scandal Heaven - true hardcore Scandal groupies
who had something planned right after the autograph
session.
“Later (right after the autograph session), all the hardcore
Scandal fans will be heading down to *Scape, you might want
to come and check it out,” Sean Tan, 24, a civil servant and
a member of Scandal Heaven, an unofficial fan club based
here in Singapore, told SGCafe.
Why’s that, I asked. What’s happening there tonight? This
was about 8.30PM on Friday evening, so the concert at
*Scape wouldn’t take place until slightly less than 24 hours
from the time I spoke to Sean.
“Yeah, the concert’s tomorrow, but some guys I know are
going to start queueing tonight. As the concert is free
standing, the earlier you queue, the closer you get to stand
to the actual performance at the concert,” Sean explained.
Other members of the fan club that SGCafe spoke to
also mentioned that many of them are going for both the
Saturday and Sunday shows.
“They [Scandal] are the strongest girls band in Japan – in the
world, I think!” added Desmond Yong, 33, a service engineer
and another esteemed member of the fan club.
“I don’t think there are any other bands who are all-girls, and
who can play as well as them!”
