1. Figure Out Why You Are Blogging

●   What's your hope/goal/mission?
●   How will you know you've achieved it?
●   What will success look like?


    Examples:
    Our goal is to attract 500 new targeted visits per
    day to our website using the blog.
2. Figure Out Who Your Target Reader Is

●   Demographics
●   Online habits
●   Interest levels in blogs/online news, etc.
●   How/where can they be found?
3. Determine Your Blog Marketing Strategy

●   How will you get your blog in front of your
    readers?
●   What is your budget – money and time?
●   Paid promotions/ads?
●   Can you tie the blog launch into a campaign?
●   How will you kick it off?
4. Assign Ownership

●   Who will maintain the blog?
●   Who will do the writing?
●   Who will do the publishing?
●   Who will manage the community that develops
    there?
5. Create an Editorial Calendar

●   Plan the post topics as well as publishing
    frequency
●   Leave time for necessary research, interviews,
    or finding associated media
●   Tie the editorial calendar to company or
    industry events
6. Set Up Promotional Tools

●   Setup email marketing system for follow-up
●   Update marketing materials
●   Setup SlideShare, Flickr, and YouTube (or other
    services) for media sharing
●   Setup social bookmarking accounts
●   Plan for syndication through LinkedIn or other social
    networking sites
7. Create a Takeaway

●   Develop content that can be distributed as a
    PDF or a video, infographic, or slideshow
●   Offer this to blog subscribers or members in
    exchange for opt-in
●   Write 1 sentence about the takeaway to use in
    signatures and author bio areas
8. Meet with Design & Dev Teams

●   Meet with a design and technical team to
    develop your blog and social media platforms
●   Keep branding consistent across platforms
●   Communicate desired engagement and sharing
    goals to the teams
●   Walk through the user experience to ensure it's
    what you want for your readers
