2. The Queen recently
unveiled a memorial to
honour the 55,573
men of Bomber
Command who lost
their lives in the
Second World War.
John Sergeant narrates
this documentary
which marks the
historic moment and
recounts the moving
stories of the last of
Bomber Command's
survivors
3. Mode
ITV’s documentary, Bomber Command, was
produced in a reflexive mode. The narrator John
Sergeant provides a voiceover throughout the
duration of the documentary which tells the
story of Bomber Squadrons during the war. The
reflexive mode was the correct choice for this
documentary, in my opinion, because it allowed
the narrator to emphasise the emotion of the
topic without effecting it with his on screen
presence.
4. Interviews
The documentary includes various deep interviews in
which ex-R.A.F soldiers describe their experiences in
Bomber Command. The interviewer is never seen on
screen and the audience never hear the question being
asked to the interviewee. This technique was also used in
the documentary 7/7 bombings and is very effective for
documentaries of this emotive nature.
This style of interviewing would be ineffective in my
documentary as the topic is not something as strong and
powerful as Bomber Command.
5. Documentaries
Described as in-depth news bulletins, ITV
documentaries find popularity by covering current
affairs to their audiences. Documentary topics such
as ‘The Other Side of Jimmy Saville’ allow viewers
to get more in depth information on the topic.
My documentary will be alike to an ITV
documentary as it will reveal current issues with
universities.
