11. Resource Manager
LUN Management Tools
• LUN Manager streamlines configuration management
processes by enabling you to define, configure, add, delete,
revise and reassign LUNs to specific paths without having to
re-boot your system. Because LUN Manager can assign D1 D2 D3 P
multiple paths to a single LUN, you gain the necessary
infrastructure to support alternative path failover, path load
balancing and clustered systems.
• LUSE allows LUN expansion by creating virtual expandable
LUs out of groups of physical ones.
• VLVI Manager optimizes storage system capacity utilization
by allowing users to create custom sized logical volumes of
information. VLVI Manager software improves performance
by reducing logical device contention and operating system
queuing. It also boosts remote copy performance by
eliminating the need to copy large volumes of information that
are only partially used.
• Customized Volume Size and Open Customized Volume
Size (OCVS) are facilities that allows the creation of small
high-performance LUNs in mainframe and open environments

12. Resource Manager
LUN Manager/Virtual LUN/LUN Expansion
How does it work?
> Defines array groups on the service processor using Remote
Console
– Allows for manipulation of:
> Open Ks (1.9 GB)
> Open 3s (2.4 GB)
> Open 8s (7.3 GB)
> Open 9s (7.3 GB)
– Creates extended LUNs by aggregating Open 9s,
Open 3s or Open Ks
– Configure custom-sized LUNs which are smaller than standard LUN
sizes (LUN Carving).
– Assigns SCSI paths, LUN #, SCSI ID, fibre path to the LUNs

Data Retention Utility
• Data Retention Utility for Open and for z/OS software provides WORM
(Write Once Read Many) capabilities on ST99XX disk storage systems in open
systems and mainframe environments.
> Lock down archived data to make it non-erasable and non-rewritable, Cannot change the
> Protect sensitive information and help facilitate compliance with Cannot change the data device mode
government and industry regulations.
> Eliminate the need for dedicated storage units for compliance
> Use with TrueCopy or ShadowImage replication technologies for
enhanced data protection
Rd Only Protect Protect
• Feature Highlights 3 years 3 years Forever
> Assigns read-only/write-only access permission to logical volumes in
storage systems
> Allows users to assign access attributes to logical volumes
> Provides an application programming interface (API) for open
environments and performs subsystem functions for mainframe
environments
> Allows administrators to specify data retention periods
> Offers audit lock capabilities, which “freeze” the environment so no data
can be released until an audit is completed
Sun Confidential: Internal Only
14. Resource Manager
Volume Shredder
• Volume Shredder
> Securely erases sensitive data
> Uses the volume shredding engine in the ST9990 and
ST9985 microcode
> Volumes can be shredded (un-readably erased) as they
are de- or re-allocated from Resource Manager or other
ST99XX products.
> Volume Shredder can be configured to overwrite a
volume with alternating patterns of all 1’s or all 0’s from 3
to 8 times, depending on requirements
> Available for both open and mainframe systems
Sun Confidential: Internal Only
15. Resource Manager – LUN Security
Volume Security Port Option and SANtinel
• SANtinel™ SAN security software helps ensure security in
open systems storage area networking environments
through restricted server access. With SANtinel you can
deny access to unauthorized users and safeguard your
mission-critical information.
• Volume Security Port Option performs the same function for
Mainframe environments
• What does it do for you?
Open
> Protects access to information by allowing secure 9
access to assigned storage
> Simplifies environment by consolidating multiple hosts Open 9
on a single array while ensuring access security
> Enables consolidation of heterogeneous files (Windows, Open 9
UNIX, Linux, Mainframe)
• How does it work?
> Enables the arrays to hide LUNs assigned to one host
from another
> Security at the Host Storage Domain level

16. Resource Manager
Performance Monitor – Basic Performance Monitoring
Resource Manager’s Performance Monitor provides detailed, in-depth
storage performance monitoring and reporting of ST99XX storage
systems including drives, logical volumes, processors, cache, ports
and other resources.
What does it do for you?
– Provides the information necessary to allow you to optimize
storage operations
– Helps organizations ensure that that they achieve and maintain
their service level objectives for performance and availability, while
maximizing the utilization of their storage assets
– Assists in-depth troubleshooting and analysis to reduce the time to
resolve storage system performance problems
How does it work?
– Provides subsystem performance information and trend analysis
– Monitors hardware performance, cache usage, and I/O statistics
– Displays real-time and historical data as graphs
– Dynamically changes write cache

17. Resource Manager -
Cache Residency Manager and
Cache Management Host Agent
• Cache Residency Manager allows users to "lock" and
"unlock" data into cache in real time to optimize
access to your most frequently accessed data. Enhanced Read/Write
Hit Performance
• Cache Management Host Agent provides the same
capabilities for mainframe environments.
FlashAccess
Area
• What do they do for you? Normal
Cache
> Protects availability to mission critical Memory
information
> Enhances access performance to key
applications is maximized
FlashAccess
• How do they work? Extent
> Increases access speed by accessing data out of
cache
> LUNs are “locked” into cache
> All or part of a LUN can be transferred to cache
> Data availability is protected by mirroring of
FlashAccess data. Sun Confidential: Internal Only

62. Mainframe Agent
Installing Mainframe Agent
You can install Mainframe Agent with the following steps.
CD-ROM
• Insert the CD-ROM disk into a PC.
• From the PC, transfer the installation JCLs to a host machine.
1.transfer Using ASCII mode, transfer from the PC to a host machine the JCL for
allocating space for the data sets on the CD-ROM that are to be
transferred (YKAGALLO), and the JCL for allocating space for and
extracting the data sets to be executed (YKAGINST).
YKAGALLO 2.edit
• Edit the jobs transferred in step 2 to match your installation
YKAGINST
environment.
For details, see the header comments in the JCLs.
3.Create
Space …execute YKAGALLO • Create space for the data sets to be transferred (execute the
YKAGALLO job).
Execute the YKAGALLO job that you edited to match the installation
environment, which creates the sequence and the data set space for
transferring the Mainframe Agent object archive and the REXX
alternate library archive to the host machine.
• From the PC, transfer in binary mode the Mainframe Agent object
archive and the REXX alternate library archive to the transfer
4.ftp data set space allocated on the host machine.
You need to transfer the REXX alternate library archive only if you
plan to install a REXX alternate library.
XMIT • Extract objects and libraries to the space allocated for the
execution data sets.
