Article 1
The first article tells readers that O2 Media has been shut down (the
companies’ mobile marketing platform, set up in 2009 to advertise to O2
customers). This is a seemingly positive move from O2, as they created a new
system called Weve that will be used partly for mobile marketing, amongst
other things. This new venture is in partnership with operators Vodafone and
EE, the new mobile network that offers 4G mobile broadband. As EE has
taken over T-mobile and Orange phone networks, the fact that they are in
partnership with O2 on this venture could greatly influence O2, as EE
customers on different networks are likely to hear about the venture.

Article 2
The second article refers to the impact mobile ads have on customers. The
article claims that in America and in the UK the viewers of mobile adverts said
it is most likely they will browse a website after seeing a mobile
advertisement for the particular brand/product. 55% of UK consumers said
this was the case, and 62% of American consumers agreed with the
statement. These figures are proof that companies should optimise their own
mobile marketing via either websites or apps, as they could increase sales.
When talking about buying presents on phones, the article claims:
“While 55 per cent of shoppers in the UK and 56 per cent in the US think their
smartphones will be best for finding presents, only 25 per cent and 30 per
cent see it as the best avenue for buying”
Though this figure shows that not as many people are actually purchasing
presents on their phones, we know that as they are finding them there they
can still go into the company store or online website and purchase them this
way. This does not affect the earning of the company as they are still getting
the consumers money.

Article 1 Square Sets Another Mobile Payment Processing Milestone
The article talks about Square’s latest adventure in the mobile payment
industry.
There is a quote from the founder of Square on the new partnership
Starbucks with and Square’s original goals. He said “Square began with a
really simple idea: everyone should be able to accept credit cards, It should
be easy and free to get set up, it should use simple technology people already
own, and, most importantly, it should instantly adapt to any size business—
from the person chasing a dream to the largest organization on the planet. By
embracing Square, Starbucks has validated these ideas as powerful tools—not
just for small businesses, but for smart businesses.”
The article is short but briefly describes the company’s background, which is
good.

Thousands of iPad minis Stolen in Covert Heist
The article talks about a robbery that occurred at JFK international airport,
which in criminals are believed to made off with $1.5 million worth of Ipad
Mini’s. The article add’s comic value by reporting that “the crime took place –
ironically – from the same cargo building where a famous heist scene was
filmed from the classic mobster flick GoodFellas.” The article also humourly
says that “Although it isn’t known how many iPad minis were at the facility
during the crime, the thieves had to leave several craters filled with the
devices behind. Their getaway vehicle was too small to make off with all of
them”.

Article 1 NOKIA LAUNCHES AD EXCHANGE POWERED BY INNERACTIVE
This article is about there being a first time fully featured as exchange to
support app discovery for developers. This is a good thing, as it will enable
immediate access to more than 120 ad networks. They say that NAX will
enable developers to monetize their apps simply; this would be making things
easier and more effective for the developers of these apps. This is the first
fully expanded program, which will deliver value to the developers by
connecting them with a large number of crucial partners. This would be good
for them, as they would have more and better options for the future.
“Within Hybrid Mediation is a “Campaign Uploader” feature that lets
developers take ad revenue generated on one platform and re-invest it in app
promotion on other platforms”
This is useful to them as they would be able to do this quickly and easily as
they would already have the revenue there to do so, this would be giving
them a useful platform that they would be able to use.

Article 2 Wireless players become medium
They are saying that the mobile phone is now becoming a third screen, as they are trying to
make them now into a mobile TV device.
“At the leading edge of this new era will be carriers like Sprint, Cingular and Verizon. The
wireless carriers-some of them offshoots of major landline telcoms-have already stolen the
marketing spotlight by unleashing ad blitzes worth about $5 billion a year to win
subscribers.”
They think that this is going to become a big marketing tool in the future.
“Text messaging is leading the new revolution. AT&T Wireless' Ms. Maclellan served as a
point person on one of the biggest package-goods trials involving text messaging. In the
McDonald's Corp. Promotion, 250 million bags for takeout orders were handed out during
the Summer Olympics with a text messaging trivia contest. Cingular has major text-
messaging deals in the works with Procter & Gamble Co. and Coca-Cola Co., Mr. Lefar says.”
During this time, they were expecting the marketing budgets of companies to increase by a
lot. They are saying this because they think that companies are going to start using things
like texting to market things in the future.
