2. #StayAtHome 2020
As you read, heard and watched, 2020 is about the
pandemic no one prepared for. It happened in a
flash, and suddenly it feels like the whole world was
shut and stop.
Every essential activities was shift from offline to
online. The #StayAtHome enforcement makes
school, offices, conferences even sports game and
concert held online.
Covid-19 pandemic will be written in our history
book, and today’s youth are the living witness of
it. The generation with survival way of thinking and
adapt to change.

3. Dalgona Coffee; this energy-consuming whipped coffee taking over
the google search for recipe during the pandemic isolation. According to
google trends, dalgona coffee is the one particular coffee that become the
most searched overtaking other kinds of coffee. The origin? Of course
none other than South Korea.

Korean Garlic Cheese; another hip food trend from South Korea. Yes! it is the garlic
cheese. Not the ordinary garlic bread but a Korean Garlic Cheese. For me personally, it’s sweeter
than supposedly garlic bread should taste like. However, many bakery and pastry shop in Jakarta
started to have this bread on their signature menu.
Huge size Bottled-Drink; yes I am sure
you’ve seen it, in your food application. This 1
liter packaging of your favorite drink. From
Starbucks to Kokumi boba drink, now available
to satisfy your thirst.
4. You simply just can’t missed a week or even a day without
a zoom session right?
Say you are a student, a worker or a family attending an
online wedding. Thanks to zoom, now we gradually could
adjust to our isolation lives with our daily routines.
Imagining the skyrocket revenue? According to BBC, Zoom
revenues leaped around 355%, while customer growth
rose to 458%.
A bonus? Zoom CEO Eric Yuan, has been crowned by TIME
magazine as the Business Person of the Year.

5. Alright, this might be a few trend not related as the domino effect
of the pandemic, but this case was a major trend in 2020.
A case of financial consultant, Jouska, who did the investment
mismanagement of their clients. Most of the clients are young
entrepreneur or young employees. Jouska known to have a
milenial segment as their target market.
The founder, Aakar Abyasa often invited as a speaker and has
many followers in his social media. He smudge the image of
“milenial influencer”. An unfortunate series of event
In YouthLab, we often distinguished youth influencer by the
medium they use to influence youth. The online influencer gets
more exposure but mostly low in engagement, while the grassroot
or offline influencer who has a strong fanbase but low exposure.
Be smart to chose your idol and role model!

6. One good thing about this pandemic shenanigan is the trend of
gardening and healthy living. People are forced to stay at
home. Then many of us started to give more attention to other
thing that keep us sane, like plants!
A plant enthusiast, @NyonyaDestira was invited to share in
Ideatalks, an big annual workshop event for youth. This is an
indication that gardening trend also reaches the young
generation.
The trend often follows with business prospect. If there’s a Crazy
Rich Asian in a fiction world, there is a “crazy rich plants” as
well. A ridiculously expensive plants like aglonema or monstera
that worth around 100 millions or so. That is the cost for one
potted plant, no, not a car or house instalment.

7. Suddenly people of digital medium such as twitter,
facebook to whatsapp group become a group of
experts consist of “scientist”, “professor” or
“doctor”, even with no relevant background of
course.
With the talks of pandemic, there’s a daily dose of
broadcast messages we get about covid-19. A bulk
of information about Covid’s symptoms, long-term
effect, and recently the talk over vaccine.
True, not all of the information are wrong but it
could be misleading if we did not cross-check with
the reliable sources like medical journal or
trustworthy news.

8. Besides zoom, which company gain a huge significant rise of profit this
year? Yes it is undeniable the movie streaming service company. Who
are the players in this category?
Netflix; Netflix achieved a record-setting growth in the first quarter of
2020, with new 16 million subscribers. Thanks to its original and
marvelous record-setting series, “The Queen’s Gambit”.
Disney+; the new player but with top grossing franchise like Marvel,
Star Wars and the latest heartwarming movie, “Soul” from Pixar.
Disney+ could be the underdog competitor in this war.
Local player? We have KlikFilm and BioskopOnline featuring many
selection of Indonesian movies. One highlighted movie of the year is
“The Story of Kale”, a spin off from “Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini”.

9. Yup that phrase come from the online multiplayer
game, Among Us. It was released back in 2018 but
got sudden popularity this year with 86 million
download in September.
This game could have 10 players, either people you
know or strangers.
You play a role of crew member in a spaceship.
However one particular crew member “among you”
has been replaced by shape-shifting alien who’s
mission is to eliminate the rest of the crew
members. The alien looks like a normal member,
that is why it is called the impostor among us ;)

10. I’m talking about both real and the imagination animal
here ;)
Animal Crossing; the highest selling game from
Nintendo switch this year is not Mario franchise, but
Animal Crossing. The game is actually pretty simple. You
played a role of a human who lives in a village inhabited
by various animals with character and personalities.

11. What’s a cancel culture really like? Ask a teenager. They know
(NY Times). To cancel someone, a celebrity or politician, means
you stop giving support to that person, or boycotting their works.
However the impact could be quite severe for the cancel culture
victim. The case of Zara JKT48 with her accidental viral video
anger her fans and bullied her right away. A day later, her family
had to made a clarification video to give Zara privacy.
I wrote an article of cancel culture https://bit.ly/2KXVHXb.
Ironically this thing considered “normal” especially in the world
of internet. When you are popular, you got the consequences of
being bullied or mocked, is it really??
You are so Cancelled!

12. This year marks a comeback trend of cycling. It’s still fresh in
our mind the trend of fixed-gear bicycle a few years back.
One question remain though; doing what I called a lifestyle
sports, was it merely for a health purpose or more of about
earning the social reward?
I did a research about lifestyle sports motivation in 2016.
The result?
Social Reward has the highest significant value of 99%. It
implies that when youth do certain activities, it should be
proper or worthy to be posted in their social media.
If they could have their self-branding and post it in their social
media, they will earn the attribute by their peers.
Sports, for Health or Social Reward?
