Factories Act
An act to consolidate and amend the law
regulating labour in factories
APPLICABILITY
This law is applicable to all provinces of
Pakistan
INTRODUCTION
 Firstly came into force on 1st
January 1935
 Define rules and regulations
 82 sections
 81 are operational
 1 is repealed
OBJECTIVES OF FACTORIES ACT
The main object of the act is to ensure
adequate safety measures and promote
health and welfare of the workers
employed in factories as well as to prevent
haphazard growth of factories
Adolescent: means a person who has
completed his fifteenth but has not
completed his seventeenth year.
Adult: means a person who has completed
his seventeenth year.
Child: means a person who has not
completed his fifteenth year.

xii. Easing of New Machinery
WORKING HOURS
 Not more than 9 Hours
 Not more than 48 Hours in a Weak
INTERVALS FOR REST
 6 hours No period exceed
 Continue not 5 hours
 If 8 hours or more work Two intervals of ½
hour
OVERTIME
Adult Not > 9 hours in any day or 48
hours/week
HOLIDAY AND LEAVE
 After completion of 12
months service
 Accidental / sickness
leave Not exceed 90
days
 In case of
women/pregnancy 12
weeks i.e. 4 weeks
before and 8 weeks after
CHILD WORKERS
CHILD WORKERS
 No child who has not completed his 14thyear shall
be allowed to work in any factory.
 Not be allowed to work for more than 5 hours in a
factory
 No child shall be allowed to work except between
6a.m to 7p.m
 Children are not allowed to work on any cotton
opener, or can not work on dangerous machines.
 Proper register should be maintained for children
WOMEN WORKERS
WOMEN WORKERS
 Machinery in motion not allowed
 Cotton opener and presser not
allowed
 Room for children 50 women worker
suitable room formula 6 year children
 Working hours limit not more than 9
hours maximum
WOMEN WORKERS
 Working time not allowed to work
beyond ( 6 am to 7 pm )
 Not allowed for night shift or two shifts
 Dangerous operations : not allowed to
work on dangerous operation working
machine system
