Review the Learning Resources I attached as file before answering the discussion. Then, post your original posting and thoughtfully. Provide an example of some form of misrepresentation in media over the years (includes: staging news, re-creations, selective editing and fictional methods). Give some background for context and answer; why, in your opinion is this an example of misrepresentation and why is it egregious? Provide the link to the example . Additionally for the Week 8 discussion, consider media bias. Both conservative and liberal sides claim that there is media bias (to the other side of their beliefs) yet, it is evident that there is bias on both sides. It is no secret that the traditional views of the following 3 media outlets are as follows: Fox News--Conservative/Right, MSNBC--Liberal/Left, CNN--Moderate. A) Track a relatively current news story and report to the class the way the 3 media outlets presented the story. Were there surprises to you in your findings? B) Also pick one additional media outlet of your choice (perhaps NPR, or BBC) and look at their perspective of the same story. Please comment on at least 3 of your classmates' postings with questions or thoughtful, respectful, thorough responses. ...

Introduction to Sociology Unit 5 Project Textbook Help : Macionis, J. J. (2011). Society: The basics (11th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall. Chapter 11 Race and Ethnicity & 13 Family and Religion Portfolio Project 3: The third portfolio entry requires the construction of a document that reflects the information you have learned in Unit V. The assignment will also test your ability to think critically about the concepts within the unit. This portfolio entry should be in one word document with proper headings for each section. This project allows you to develop some interviewing skills, generate tables, create a timeline, and write a debate. These different mini projects allow you to think outside of the box of the traditional assignment and assessment format, stretching your academic capabilities and applying them to the sociology discipline. 1. Ask five people how they would define racism, religion, and family, and then summarize the definitions. Identify the similarities and differences in the definitions. Provide your own definitions of each and how they relate to each other. a. You can use any means you want to interview people. Social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), email, or personal interviews are all acceptable. 2. Generate a table with a list of the different patterns of interaction between minority and majority groups. The table should have three columns: a. One column for the models b. One column providing three facts about each model c. One column providing two different examples for each model 3. Develop a K-W-L table for each of the racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Create three columns for each table with the following categories: What I KNOW (K), what I WANT to know (W), and what I LEARNED (L). Complete the “K” and “W” sections, listing at least three things you know and three things that you want to know about each of the racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Then, perform research on the different associated cultures, and list three things you learned about the different cultures, and fill them in the “L” section. 4. Create a timeline listing the different stages of family life. Make note of any events, significant milestones, or problems that may occur. 5. Argue both sides (supporting and rejecting) the following statement in one to two paragraphs: The religions in the world will never get along because they are too different. .

Social History of Sports in the U.S. This course is entirely on-line, so all information can be obtained through the Blackboard site, or by e-mailing Bill Offutt directly at [email protected] or [email protected] NOTE: Because this course is extremely condensed into 40 days, I will be posting much of the material ahead of when it is due, for students to work through at their own pace; in other words, you can work ahead as you feel like it. There are certain pieces of material, from Unit Two forward, that will be added to both the Course Documents , where the assigned readings are, and Discussion Board , where focused questions and material will guide your responses. The materials will be added in time for use by the various intermediate deadlines. However, there are particular deadlines for completion of the discussion writing on the various units of material as well as the two papers that make up the grade, and students must pay close attention to these deadlines in order to complete the course. Course Goals: This course will examine the experience of sports and leisure for different groups of Americans (e.g., African-Americans, women, working class), from colonial times to the present but primarily focused on the 20th century. My goal is to introduce students to historical analysis and argument through the examination of the sports and leisure time activities that won increasing popularity among Americans from the late nineteenth to the late twentieth century. This course will incorporate analytical categories from social history (class, race, gender, ethnicity) as well as the frameworks used by cultural, economic, and political history. This course will thus involve students in gaining a better understanding of the relationships that sports and leisure have with the social, economic, cultural and political forces at work in the United States and the world. Students will appreciate the issues that have affected sports participation over the years, including racial and gender discrimination, class economics, and commercialization. Students are expected to learn not only the basic data of American social history of sports but also to express that knowledge in oral and written argument that employs evidence to prove historical theses. Precise assignments for discussion are given at the end of this syllabus. Students will also be expected to use the Blackboard site for discussion. This course is thus NOT about player statistics, won-loss records, and/or fantasy leagues. It is about understanding the role sports has played in American society over time, and that is a serious historical inquiry. By the end of the course, you will be able to: 1) Identify and analyze the changing meaning and significance of sports and leisure to American society and culture. 2) Discuss the major developments in sports as they were influenced by major social, economic, cultural and political forces in American history, and (in turn) how sports pa.

Outline Instructions Please emulate the Rwanda outline example and a template that should help. *Remember all of your outlining rules. Do not deviate from this or it will cost you valuable points. *The labels of the evidence examples I provided will need to be moved and can go anywhere in the outline, depending on your unique content. The same is true for the subordination marks in the BODY, of course. *Think about 4-5 pages content and three main points,double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font. *Don't forget all of your outlining rules (e.g. complete sentences, single sentences per point in the BODY with the exception of labeled expert testimonies, extended examples and illustrations). *Your first main point may define and/or state the significance of the issue you will be exploring in your 2nd and 3rd main points (cause/effect), or you can exclusively focus on the cause/effects on all of your three main points. *Don't try to solve this issue, but you can inform us if a country or organization has or is doing something to try to solve the problem (that is an effect). *Don't forget to cite and provide a reference page utilizing a minimum of three qualitysources (e.g. online databases that contain newspapers, magazines and academic journals, .orgs, .edus, .govs, .mils, books, e-books, etc.) *Remember that you need to turn in all of your printed research articles highlighting the portions that will be in your outline including the 1st pages of each research source AND any other pages that you utilized. DO NOT CUT & PASTE!!! Or you can send the research to me with the links to the articles, but the content you utilize in your outline must still be highlighted (make a PDF File to accomplish this *When typing next to the labels, make sure to switch away from bold text. *Be sure to follow the Rwanda example I just attached. This is all due Monday, November 3. -Some of North Korea issues: 1- Isolationism, 2- Media Censorship, 3- Internet Control, 4- Dictatorship, etc. You have the choice to pick other issues if you would like, but it needs to be supported by quality sources. 2 4 Put name here in header (Put title here) Genocide in Rwanda I. Introduction A. (Attention Getter/Hypothetical Illustration) Capture the attention of the audience. Not just mildly interesting, but a real “grabber.” May be a story, statistic, question, quotation or other creative idea. This may be more than one sentence. What if I told you that in San Diego County, over the next one hundred days, about 800,000 people would be brutally slaughtered with machetes for no other reason than their ethnicity? Would you not expect some one to step in and put a stop to it? The police? The National Guard? The United Nations? Somebody, right? How would you feel if nobody stepped in to stop the senseless bloodshed? Well, this is exactly what happened in Rwanda in 1994. B. (Reason to Listen) The tragedy that happened in Rwand.

The presentation explores the development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) from its inception to its current status in the modern world. The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society. The development from theoretical concepts to real-world applications illustrates both the potential benefits and the challenges that come with integrating advanced technologies into everyday life. The ongoing discussion about AI ethics and regulation underscores the importance of managing these technologies responsibly to maximize their their benefits while minimizing potential harms.
