Eva Peron Sana Amin , 8B
Who Was She? Eva Person was the 2nd wife of the late former President of Argentina – Juan Peron. Given the title “Spiritual Leader of the Nation of Argentina” when she died. She had been the subject to many controversies as she lived with Juan before they were married and was an illegimate child because her father abandoned her mother and family.
What did she do? Eva won hearts of Argentina's people through her compassion and determination to better the lives of the poor. Evita as she was affectionately called, saved the lives of thousands of poor children. Through her fundación she did a lot of social work. She built hospitals , schools , universities , shelters etc.
Contributions to Healthcare Evita created a safety net so that all citizens would have access to quality health care. She sent a Hospital Train throughout Argentina. Equipped with operating and a delivery rooms, it offered free medical attention, vaccinations, x-rays and medicine to all who needed care. She created many hospitals and ensured that the poor and working class receives the proper care needed. When she died the government added 30,000 hospital beds.
Contributions to Education Fundación Eva Peron created the HogaresEscuela which is made up of 20 home schools built to be a safe haven for the children on the streets. Children went to public schools and maintained family ties whenever possible. The architecture of the Home Schools reflected their openness to society They received education and care in her Home Schools, the Children's City, the Students' City, University Cities and through the One Thousand Schools Plan, she offered them a key to a better future. .
Contribution to Society Evita assisted homeless families by offering shelter, education and employment. Senior citizens were offered homes where they could live productive and interesting lives; Working women alone in Buenos Aires found an attractive home and company. In 1948, the Fundación opened three Hogares de Tránsito, temporary homes for people who needed a place to live until their problems could be solved ( housing, employment or medical attention).
Death Evidently , by 1950 Eva’s health started deteriorating rapidly. She was diagnosed with cancer and even after a surgery she didn’t survive. Eva died on July 26th , 1952 at the age of 33. Argentina went into mourning for several days. Her body was embalmed.
RevoluciónLibertadora In 1955 Juan Peron was overthrown in a Military coup, the RevoluciónLibertadora. They forbade even speaking about or having pictures of the Peron’s. Destroyed the home schools and other things set up by FundaciónEva Peron.
