The Joint Actions on Climate Change Conference will consist of representatives of governments, industry, retailers, researchers as well as NGOs, consumer organisations and the financial sector. It will bring these stakeholders together with the aim of fostering a fruitful dialogue and bridging gaps in views and positions on how innovation and design can tackle the crisis of climate change. This conference will be a building block towards setting targets for the COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.

Breaking the cycle of underdevelopment has been the major preoccupation for governments and populations in the developing world over the last one hundred years. With developmental models currently under revision, developing countries have been advised to look for other possible alternatives of sustainable development. The one area that is gaining significant attention is that of the Cultural and Creative Industries. In recent years, the UN and its specialized agencies have been spelling the good fortune of these industries. However, there is very scant literature to show how best to manage these industries. This paper therefore proposes to show how Project Management as a tool can be used to take these industries to a desirable level to produce tangible results for developing countries. In addition to standard research based on the existing literature and debates, the Case Study methodology will be used to show at least how one country is making steps and strides with the application of Project Management. It must be noted however, that the paper will be heavily focused on project management methodologies and recommendations for action. There are three approaches that come to mind for immediate application: the use of the Logical Framework Approach for Project and Program Planning; standardizing project management methodologies across the infrastructure of the cultural and creative industries; and a model for creating a centralized Cultural Project Management Office (CPMO).

Across the UK we are seeing more and more examples of smart city transformation. Key 'smart' sectors utilised by such Cities include transport, energy, health care, water and waste. Against the current background of economic, social, security and technological changes caused by the globalization and the integration process, cities in the UK face the challenge of combining competitiveness and sustainable urban development simultaneously. A smart city is a place where the traditional networks and services are made more efficient with the use of digital and telecommunication technologies, for the benefit of its inhabitants and businesses. With this vision in mind, the European Union is investing in ICT research and innovation and developing policies to improve the quality of life of citizens and make cities more sustainable in view of Europe's 20-20-20 targets. The smart city concept goes beyond the use of ICT for better resource use and less emissions. It means smarter urban transport networks, upgraded water supply and waste disposal facilities, and more efficient ways to light and heat buildings. And it also encompasses a more interactive and responsive city administration, safer and secure public spaces. Smart Cities UK 2017 Conference, Expo and Awards lead the way on addressing the best practice examples on smart transformation from across Cities within the United Kingdom whilst disseminating guidance and information transformation within waste, energy, transport, security and other key smart sectors.

Nepal is recognised for its participatory conservation and community-based forest governance policies and programs. But in recent years, government officials and forestry bureaucrats have attempted to restrict the autonomy of forest communities and capture more economic value from forests. This presentation examines whether the current process of REDD policy formation – and the actors involved – will reinforce existing centralised forest governance, or forge more cooperative institutions capable of producing effective, cost-efficient and equitable outcomes for REDD. Bryan Bushley, of the University of Hawaii and East-West Center, gave this presentation on 18 June 2012 at a panel discussion organised by CIFOR and partners at the ISEE 2012 Conference at Rio, which convened under the topic "Ecological Economics and Rio+20: Challenges and Contributions for a Green Economy". The panel was titled ‘National strategies for reducing emissions from avoided deforestation and degradation – how much transformational change is possible in current political and economic realities? Part II – A policy network perspective’. The research forming the basis of this presentation was conducted collaboratively with Dil Bahadur Khatri and others at ForestAction Nepal.

PM Solutions Research first surveyed organizations about their Project/Program Management Office (PMO) practices in 2000. In our latest survey, we've taken another look at the PMO, which has become the central organizational structure for standardizing the practices of companies in the delivery of their projects. This research will help us understand PMO trends pointing to solutions that will lead organizations to success in these complex, fast-changing times.

Billions of connected devices and things. Billions of people. 5G will provide connectivity for all of these things and people as well as businesses and industry, bringing benefit to society. Operating machinery in hazardous environments from a remote control will be enabled through near-zero latency communication links that enable real-time video. Billions of video-enabled devices will be able to share bandwidth-hungry content. These are just a few applications that illustrate what 5G will be designed for.

I held this speech at the EU presidency conference on the digitisation of cultural heritage in Europe, Amsterdam 2016. A smart city leverages digital technologies and digital content to deliver services to it's constituents. eCulture services and digital cultural content in the Smart City offer a wealth of opportunities to make the city more livable and provide an enhanced experience. Some examples show what this means for different verticals like mobility, retail, tourism. Cultural digital content can easily be attached and linked to these services offering an enriched experience and connecting meaningful cultural content to selected Smart City services. To make this happen and capture the value of the digital opportunities relevant policies have to be put in place.

The Future Foundation has carried out an extensive forecasting exercise to explore the future of several commercial themes and sectors beyond 2020. In this report, we examine our predictions for the future of retail, identifying informed assumptions for the evolution of consumer trends, product and service innovations and the role that technological developments will play. We also provide invented images of retail concepts that might characterize the future marketplace as a result of the shifts we describe.
