4. What is CRS??
• A computer reservations system or central
reservation system(CRS) is
a computerized system used to store and
retrieve information and conduct transactions
related to air travel.
• CRS were later extended for the use of travel
agencies.

5. GDS
• Major CRS operations that book and sell tickets
for multiple airlines are known as global
distribution systems (GDS).
• The airline industry created the first GDS in the
1960s as a way to keep track of flight schedules,
availability, and prices.
• By the mid 1970s,SABRE (owned by American
Airline) and Apollo (United) began installing their
propriety internal reservations systems in travel
agencies.

6. • Airlines have divested most of their direct
holdings to dedicated GDS companies, who
make their systems accessible to consumers
through Internet gateways.
• GDS allow users to book hotel, rental cars,
airlines tickets as well as cruise line.
