6. Yves Klein IKB 191 (1962) Painting New Realism = New Perceptual Approaches To The Real These paintings for me bring me to a different place when I view them, they start to transform and I get lost in them.
7. Eva and Franco Mattes aka 0100101110101101.ORG Portraits (2006-2007) “portraits of avatars , the customizable personas that people inhabit in online virtual worlds. Addressing the new online environments as places to socialize, nurture celebrity, and perhaps leave one's real self behind” This for me brings in the beauty of video game graphics as art but also as a way to show how people can leave real world for this fantasy world.
8. Riley Harmon Ghosting (2006) Sculpture/Video In pop culture, “ghosting” is: n. the appearance of one or more false images on a television screen. v. when players that have been killed in a video game watch other players As viewers look through the gas mask, a video self-portrait is super-imposed onto the action figures via the pepper’s ghost theatrical illusion. I think this installation somewhat relates, there is a sense of otherness and being transformed into a different entity
9. Corey Arcangel Super Mario Clouds (2002) Hack of Super Mario NES Cartridge video I think with this piece I am most inspired by how different the image seems just as sky, typically with a game like Mario you don’t even pay attention to the sky. So this too has an otherness and a meditation too it.
