Duke Ethiopian/Eritrean Student Transnational Association (DESTA)– Durham, NC August 2013-Present
Secretary, Event Coordinator. Cultural group comprised of mainly Ethiopian and Eritrean students that
engages in and plans activities involving both social unity and cultural awareness, including fundraising
for charities and causes around the world.
Craven Quad Section AA/Z House Council – Durham, NC August 2014-Present
President, Vice President. Planning and organizing events and materials for residents of my dorm section
in order to create an environment of unity in the space in which we reside. Examples include giving
away Duke pillows and gear to fellow residents as well as organizing a pumpkin carving event and trips
to Durham Performing Arts Center as well as to different local sporting events.
Duke Marketing Club – Durham, NC August 2014-Present
Director of Library Party, Marketing Committee Member. Responsible for leading the Library Party
committee in order to put together all the details necessary for the large annual Library Party held at
Duke for students, faculty, and alumni. Also, working on finding creative ways in which to market events
being held by the Duke Marketing Club to the entire campus.
Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity – Durham, NC January 2015-Present
Pledge Social Chair. A "brotherhood" of sorts that focuses on service, leadership, and friendship as its
primary goals. As a pledge during the last semester, my role as Social Chair required that I come up with
and organize a variety of social events for the brotherhood & pledges alike to be a part of. Activities
include things such as meals, movies, bowling, cooking, hiking, going on scavenger hunts, etc.
Duke Quidditch – Durham, NC August 2014-Present
Treasurer. Play competitively as a team, most often as defensive Beater. Practice every week with
tournaments sporadically throughout the year. Very physical sport involving a lot of running and
tackling. Often described as being a combination of dodge ball, rugby, and disk golf.
Duke Fashion Exchange – Durham, NC February 2015-Present
President, Vice President/Treasurer. Allowing for Duke students to easily buy clothing, electronics, books,
furniture, etc. from one another. Since the conception of the official club in February of 2015, I have
held a leadership position second only to the founder of the original Facebook groups. We have held
three events allowing students to swap & sell items on site, have come up with an array of plans for the
upcoming year, and have developed a website for online swapping, slowly working our way off of our
current Facebook platform.
Resound Magazine – Durham, NC January 2015-Present
Marketing Committee Member. Implement new marketing strategies in order to develop a new and
improved image for Resound Magazine encircling its theme of music. Currently working towards
creating a new music magazine all together for the school.

Black Student Alliance Invitational – Durham, NC March 2014
Media Committee Member. Capturing and recording the moments of potential freshmen of the Duke
Class of 2018 as they get a feel for the campus then showcasing these moments to them later on.
International Baccalaureate Newsletter – Indianapolis, IN November 2011- June 2013
Founder, Writer. Started and maintained a newsletter to keep our International Baccalaureate cohort
connected and up to date with all that is happening with Ben Davis High School, our specific program,
classes, exams, teachers, and outside opportunities.
Work Experience
Indianapolis Zoo, Centerplate Catering – Indianapolis, IN June 2013 – Present
Cashier. Work with a team in order to serve/prepare food making sure to provide a welcoming
environment for guests of the Indianapolis Zoo in order to make their visit more enjoyable.
Duke University Donohue Lab – Durham, NC September 2013 – Present
Undergraduate Research Assistant. Aiding in the research and preparation of data in the Donohue Lab
at Duke University. Utilize Excel often.
Duke University Annual Fund Phonathon – Durham, NC January – March 2015
Student Caller. Reached out to the alumni, students, and parents of all of Duke in order to gain their
support for the institution via donations. Was able to support my school through this program because it
allows for Duke to be able to use funds given to them immediately towards the area(s) designated by
the donor.
Volunteer Experience
WFYI, Indiana’s Public Radio Broadcasting Station – Indianapolis, IN June 2008 – Present
Mascot & Other. Perform as a mascot in full costume and/or helper at several events for PBS and other
affiliates of WFYI in order to be a part of the community and allow people to know of the educational
benefits of public radio.
Fregenet Foundation – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia June 2014 – Present
When visiting Ethiopia in the Summer of 2014 with my family, I took a few days to volunteer at the
Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat School, a part of the Fregenet Foundation, to help better teach English to the
young students. The school is meant for students who cannot afford school supplies, uniform, health care,
food, books, etc. and continues to support those students even after they've gone on to higher grades.
When we returned to America that summer, my sister & I held a garage sale and at school I’ve worked
with different groups in order to raise much needed and deserved funds for the foundation.
Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity – Durham, NC January 2015 – Present
Through my involvement in APO, I have been able to serve the Durham community through a variety of
programs we have volunteered and/or raised funds, donations, and awareness for. For example, I've
been involved in tutoring local students, helping out at the Carolina Tiger Rescue, collecting food for
local food shelters, painting walls in an elementary school to liven up the environment for students,
volunteering at a local farm and much more.
