THE DANGERS OF
DRUNK DRIVING
AN ARTICLE BY

Drunk driving can cause senseless injury and death,
huge fines, suspension or withdrawal of driving
licenses, embarrassment and long jail terms, and
should be shunned without excuses. The
Consequences of Drunk Driving Alcohol impairs
judgment, vital motor skills and depth perception.
This is why people driving under the influence of
alcohol may make wide turns, drive on wrong sides
of the road, brake erratically, stop without cause,
respond poorly and slowly to traffic signals, turn
abruptly, drive at extremely slow speeds, drive after
dark with their headlights off, strike other vehicles or
objects on their way, swerve, drift, weave and
straddle the center line. Because of these mistakes,
drunk drivers are a danger both to themselves and
to other road users.
Thousands of annual traffic fatalities associated with
drunk driving crashes are still recorded and any
drunk driver can easily become a statistic. Drunk
driving is also illegal in almost all countries across
the globe. Operating vehicles with excess amounts
of alcohol in your blood is, therefore, a breach of law
and a crime. Such drivers are usually awoken by the
sound of the siren, the red flashing lights, and the
knock of their vehicles’ side windows by uniformed
officers who will ask to perform blood alcohol
content (BAC) tests to confirm their suspicions.
The officers will run BAC tests on suspected drivers
and will arrest individuals found to be driving with
alcohol limits above the legal lower limit of 0.08% (or
other) that is prescribed in law. Why People Fall
Easily Into Drunk Driving Alcoholic drinks are usually
part of throwing fun to friends and other
acquaintances, and of successful parties and events.
Many people, especially those who drink alcohol,
feel most welcome and engaged when they attend
events in which plenty of alcohol is availed. Similarly,
outings in restaurants and hotels are considered
complete when plenty of alcohol is factored in.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying a rapturous
party, celebration, or outing, and getting drunk. You
have the freedom to drink as long as you are within
a legally accepted age for drinking. However, a lot is
usually wrong when the party ends, you are
extremely drunk and you need to drive home. You
can easily fall in the trap of drunk driving.
HOW TO AVOID DRUNK DRIVING
The solution to the problem rests primarily in the
hands of the individual and the event organizers. The
individuals should arrange for designated drivers
when they are going to parties. They should also
listen to and follow event drinking guidelines,
especially the requirements to hand in their keys to
staff and to stop drinking when requested. Instead
of driving their cars to parties, individuals should opt
for alternative transportation. This way, they will not
have their cars around when they are already drunk
and ready to go home.
Furthermore, Orlando DUI Laws can be adhered to if
the individuals choose to use trains, buses, and cabs
as alternatives to self-driving. For event organizers, it
is important to provide plenty of non-alcoholic
drinks, lots of yummy food, and to bring alcoholic
beverages with low quantities of alcohol. Because
controlling the amount of alcoholic drinks consumed
by individuals is difficult, event organizers should
encourage the collection of car keys, avoid drinking
games, respect individuals who choose not to drink,
and encourage guests to come with designated
drivers. Drinks at events should be served by family,
friends. In order to keep track of the amounts
consumed and to discourage guests from making
their own blends. Event organizers should not serve
alcohol to those who are already excessively drunk.
Equally, they should stop serving alcohol to the
attendees around 90 minutes to the end of the
party. Event organizers should try to speak to guests
in order to assess their ability to drive. If they think
that any guests are too drunk to drive, they should
call cabs or taxis, get friends, encourage the
individuals to stay behind, or drive the individuals
themselves. Hotels, restaurants, and banquet
facilities should arrange for limousine, taxi, or
shuttle-bus services to and from their locations in
order to encourage more people to avoid drunk
driving.
Similarly, availing free escort services and arranging
for complementary rooms for the guests at reduced
rates will encourage people to stay and avoid drunk
driving.
