presentation & article for ELAG conference 2008 Abstract of paper: "With the change of perspective that has taken place within many cultural institutions, users are becoming kings in cultural heritage websites. Instead of asking what are we able to do? the leading question is now what does the user want us to do? This paper puts The European Library and Europeana two of Europes most important cultural heritage portals in this context. First it explains what mechanisms they have in place to meet user demands. Next some of the main trends they are encountering such as the reinvention of collections, personalization and API are briefly addressed."
