Photographing pet dogs
1. Photographing Pet Dogs
Happy Pets make a Good Photograph
You have known your pet dog long enough to know when he is the most active. Use this to schedule a
time where you can photograph your pet in his element. Make sure your pet is well rested and fed, so
he does not get moody during the shoot. A happy dog makes for a good photo opportunity!
Perfect Locations
You can take your dog to a location where he is most comfortable and let him settle in the
surroundings. Engage him in his favourite activity, so that he is relaxed and in a great mood. The
familiarity of the place will let your dog be calm and happy, and in return give you lot of opportunities to
shoot with.
Patience is a Virtue
You may already know that dogs are not the best at taking directions while taking photographs. While
photographing any animal, patience is your best friend. Engage your dog in his favorite activity,
observe him and begin shooting. Do not force your pet to do something that he does not want to—you
will end up with a grumpy dog, and no photographs.
Special Camera Modes
These days, you can use the settings and Scene modes specifically meant for shooting pets that are
available in most compact cameras. In your DSLRs, you may use the Sports settings to freeze your
pet’s movements. To capture each second of your pet in action, choose a high ISO value to get a fast
shutterspeed and shoot in the Burst mode. Get down to your pet’s level and utilise tight frames to
compose your shot and get the perfect pet photograph.
