- We challenged the convention of a formal tone and language for news by using partially informal language. This was because the youths who are our target audience tend to get turned off by the formality of regular news. We also broke the conventions by using pop tunes in between each headline, by doing that we tried to break the typical stereotype of news being boring. However we did use several of the conventions such as the regular news structure of theme tune, followed by stinger, then headlines, then lead story. We also included those features that an audience expect in a newscast - such as weather report, vox pops and so on.
- People stereotype youth as being dangerous to their street as they have nothing to do due to unemployment. They think this happened because they are not educated enough, and to prove them wrong we spoke a teenager and what she thought of the whole situation. This story presents her and other youths as being intelligent, misunderstood and frustrated. The positive side which we saw came out of this was the governments response to see how considerate they were to help the youth. Politicians are therefore represented as concerned and politically responsible.
- The Saturday school story is the one which most affects our audience because it represents them as careless, and rebellious student. This story suggests that the students could not care less about their education, and to help, the government decided to open school six days a week which again represents politicians as active citizens who are concerned and sympathetic.
- New moon is the story which involves everyone who loves the “twilight saga” and in this story teens are represented as Fanatics and easily influenced fantasists- They seem to follow the crowd. Especially the female fan following. So this story is more linked with our female auidence.
- This is the news which seems to grab the most attention, as the world cup date comes closer England's chances of winning the world cup decrease. For some people David Beckham was the only hope for England and he is represented as the national hero. For some people without Beckham England can not win.
- Our newscast is best suited for BBC 1XTRA because we share the same target audience. Both of our radio products have similar content and style. We also target the same audience.
- To connect with our audience better we used many methods, one of them is using partially informal language. this way our audience would feel connect and wouldn't lose interest, and would attract wider audience. Also as well as being able to enjoy the entertainment our young audience can receive useful and informative information. Apart from the language we tried to make the news more fun with some light stories. Wealso used up pop tunes as a music be to engage our young audience. We ensured that the news we provided related to them. Our main objective was to connect with our audience as much as possible, so instead of having typical orthodox news presenters we decided to have Mc and Dj; iconic youth culture titles that our audience can identify with from the underground scene.
- During the process of making this product I learned that technology is very easy to use and very easy manipulate. With the help of technology it has become easier for consumer to keep in touch with their favourite radio station. They are able to leave comments on the website, about how they feel about the station and what can be done to improve the station. The biggest thing about technology is that it’s portable, it can be used anywhere and every where.
- DAB means digital audio broadcast, it offers better quality sound for the station and allows to have more control. It converts audio from analogue to digital, it doesn’t let any personal interfering.
- Some media theorists believe that digital technology may one day completely replace analogue. it has spread rapidly around the world. It has therefore become a huge part of consumers life. without the help of digital technology it would be difficult for the consumers to be in touch with their favorite radio show. I have also learned that editing is not as easy and accessible when done in Analogue technology.
- Parallel medium is when two or more things can be done at the same time, for example being able to listen to the radio while doing house chores. or being able to listen to music and drive at the same time. The technology of radio also makes it portable. Convergence supports portability. Radio is now available on mobile phones and some other small gadgets.
- During the preliminary task I learned how to edit files so that the final outcome is a smooth, connected product. I picked up skills on using the microphone, editing software such as Audacity, driving the board in studio and other equipment. The course helped me understand what news values, standards and ethics guide journalists and I understand how they decide what stories are newsworthy. I also learned how important audience feedback is as it helps us to make improvements.
