This document discusses how a college recognizes student achievements through social media and other platforms. It outlines the recognition process, which starts with a student accomplishing something noteworthy. Then the marketing communications department learns about it and shares it publicly to recognize the student. Some examples of achievements include community service, student government, internships, academic honors like the dean's or president's list, study abroad, athletics, and more. Statistics are provided on numbers of students recognized and social media engagement for posts recognizing students. Ideas from other colleges are also mentioned, along with encouraging increased awareness of the recognition program.

Define recongition for “what is it?” – acknowledgement, crediting, gratitude, appreciation, respect
Things it might be: pat on the back, “nice job,” the chancellors award, Applauding an effort in class even though something may be wrong, stickers, good grades, an email, “thank you”
Why? Self esteeem, people are likely to perform again in the future, a means of thanking them, letting others know the work someone has done, show off how great they are…
NOT a discussion.
In Merit world, an achievement is this award to our students. An achievement is a student going above and beyond – they’re reaching a goal that they have personally set without faculty instruction or demands or incentive.
Merit is a pretty simple thing. Can be broken down into three steps.
We’ve had Merit for about a year now.
We’ve learned the process pretty well, and started out by awarding our first achievement as Dean’s and Presidents List for Fall 2013.
STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE A PROFILE UNLESS THEY GET AN ACHIEVEMENT.
Once they earn an achievement, students receive an email congratulating them.
Students should click “claim your profile” in this email. They connect with Facebook or Twitter, beginning their profile
Students are given a profile that they can do whatever they want with – nothing, or everything.
