The latest numbers from the Hawaii Tourism Authority
(HTA) report 2010 brought in more than 7 million
visitors and $11.4 billion in visitor spending, representing
the eighth consecutive month of double-digit increases in
overall spending.
“(These) are solid indicators that tourism continues to gain momentum,”
says Mike McCartney, HTA president and CEO.
And this is in addition to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference
in November, for which the industry (and the state as a whole) is gearing up.
The event is expected to attract about 20,000 visitors from 21 countries, bringing
revenues of more than $120 million.
“By remaining focused in our strategic direction and brand management
efforts, HTA will continue to guide tourism to help lead the economic recovery
for the entire state,” adds McCartney. “When tourism does well, Hawaii also
thrives – with more jobs and opportunities for Hawaii’s people.”
With that said, Hawaii Hospitality will continue to help you take advantage
of the opportunities that lie ahead, with features such as “The Diverse Traveler”
(page 12) and soon, updates on APEC preparations along with our usual bevy
of news and cover stories.
“So prepare for a chance of a lifetime. Be prepared for sensational news. A
shining new era is tiptoeing nearer (and) … you’ll be rewarded.” – from The
Lion King, music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice.
