The criteria for the Service Unit STAR Awards has been reviewed and updated. You will find the information in your folders. Your RR Specialist will be able to review with you where your Service Unit is and the things you will want to focus on this year. Your Service Unit goals will be sent out shortly. Thank you for meeting with your RR Specialist and giving your input on the goals for the new year! We want to work together to set and meet our goals!
As of September our new members will have access to register online. We will still encourage new members to join through the Service Unit, however the option will be available. When a parent visits the web site they will have the option to request information by filling out an interest form or to join as a member. There is a note letting them know this does not guarantee a troop placement, and fees are non-refundable. When an adult visits the web site they will have the option to volunteer and fill out the application, or join as a member. These new members become members of the council when they join. They are not assigned to a Service Unit or troop yet. Each week the Specialist will receive a list for their areas with any new members that need to be placed into a Service Unit and into a troop. The new member will stay on this list till they are placed.
Zombies are invading Kettle Run Girl Scout Camp! On September 29th the zombies arrive! Older girls can come out to learn emergency preparedness, first aid, and survival skills. Girls will get to choose optional workshops that include zombie make-up, Thriller dance choreography, and more. IF girls are prepared for a Zombie Apocalypse they are prepared for anything! Cost is $10 for registered girls, for more information reach out to Katie Smith.
After hearing from you, the decision was made to restructure the Recruitment and Retention Team. This year each Specialist will have 8 Service Units to work with. Your RR Specialist will focus on both recruitment and retention, and will attend a minimum of 3 of your leader meetings this year. They will be working with you to have a recruitment plan for every Service Unit to recruit adults with girls. We are working now to be able to reach out to every school through either flyers, back to school nights, or recruitment nights. We also have yard signs for you to put out in your area, please let your specialist know how many you need and they will get them to you! We have been hearing a lot of excitement and positive things about the new year, we look forward to working with you to make this our most successful year!!!
Theme for this year’s magazine and nut program is Be Your Best You and the mascot is the bumble bee. The mag and nut sale will take place from October 7th through the 25th.
All trainings will begin at 6pm. There are still a handful of service units who are still trying to fill the Mag and Nut Mgr position: EHT, Raccoon Valley and Shamong. Please contact us as soon as you do. We want to ensure that sales materials are shipped to your service unit in a timely manner.
There are 3 new chocolate offerings for the 2013 season:Double chocolate trufflesDulce de leche owlsDark chocolate mint penguinsWe are anxious to see the sales results of the Dark Chocolate Mint Penguin. The penguins were the best new item ranking #4 in overall sales with 70% of all GS councils carrying them.
These are the two tins in our line up for 2013.The holiday tin will contain the delicious choc covered pretzels and the flowerpot tin will be filled with double choc truffles. We have revamped this year’s sale and part of the inspiration came from a conversation during on the last SUM meetings. An SUM expressed, “We do fabulous things during the cookie program but I feel cheated during the magazine and nut sale. Why don’t you guys do cool stuff for that sale!”We are excited to show you what we have planned for the magazine and nut sale because we think it will be well received.
This is our first time implementing a troop reward.Troops selling 125 nut, candy or chocolate items and 30 magazine and subscriptions will earn a Regal movie ticket for each girl participating in the sale. Participation is defined as having sold items in the 2013 sale. It does not include the sole submission of an address booklet.
Girls selling 100 nut or 35 magazine items will be considered a Top Seller and receive a trophy, pin and certificate to acknowledge her hard work. These girls will also receive an invitation to our 2014 Top Seller Video Production. These girls will become the stars of our product program video that will be used to promote the Girl Scout Magazine and Nut Program.Girls selling 150 nut or 50 magazine items will earn a digital camera that can be used to document her Girl Scout experience throughout the year. Finally, the Top 6 Sellers will receive an invite for a fun and fabulous event with our NEW GSCSNJ CEO and a special VIP pin from our CEO!How’s that for excitement!
We didn’t forget about the friends and family that support our Girl Scouts every year!If customers purchase 5 nut/candy items or 3 magazine subscriptions in a single transaction, they can enter our online drawing for a delicious Ashdon Farms Gourmet Gift Basket. Entries will be accepted from Oct 7-25. Winners will be announced on November 1st.
This year’s theme is Change the World and the mascot is the red panda.
Ginger sent this information out to all the Service Unit Manager earlier this week. But, here are the scheduled dates for the upcoming cookie program just in case you missed that email. Please continue to recruit to fill this position. When you do fill the position, forward Ginger’s email to them so they can complete the online form. All trainings begin at 6:00pm.
Just in case you haven’t heard, the Mango Cremes will not be coming back! The Cranberry Citrus Crisps will take it’s place. This is ABC Bakers attempt to take advantage of the breakfast cookie segment of the market that is experiencing growth at the current time. We are “going big” for the cookie program reward line up! We know girls, parents and leaders will be exited to see the great things we are offering for the 2014 Cookie Program.
The Taste of Home program is our way of saying thanks to our military men and women at home and abroad. In 2013, our council donated approximately 1,000 cases of cookies to Fort Dix/Fort McGuire. We are shooting for a bigger donation in 2014.To help boost this number, we are offering a Taste of Home Troop Incentive. Troops that collect 4 or more cases donated to Taste of Home will earn the patch for each participating girl.
Girls can earn tickets for experience trips to Girl Scout Day at Morey’s Pier and Great Adventure. Those who sell at least 500 boxes of cookies will be invited to a GSCSNJ Superstar Sellers Event at Clementon Park and Splash World. We know that Girl Scouts just want to have fun so we are providing them with a few fantastic options!
In addition to experiences, electronics are the hottest things that girls want! We are offering the iPod Nano, stereo headphones and a Kindle Fire. The Kindle was voted #1 by our girls. We are excited by the line up that is in place for the cookie program and we know the girls will be excited too!
These guidelines apply to Troops. All money earning activities for Gold and Silver awards should be approved by GSCSNJ through the Gold/ Silver award application approval process.
This application is for TROOP money-earning only. Independent girls should contact development@gscsnj.org or the Product Program department if interested in participating in Cookie and QSP sales. Silver/Gold award projects should have money earning activities approved through the awards committee.
Applications require the approval of the SUM, who will forward to development@gscsnj.org. Please submit applications at least 1 month in advance of the activity to SUM, 2 weeks to Council. SUMs, if you do not have a response within 48 hours, please contact Leah O’Connor or Donna Evans.
We don’t like to get yelled at! Companies often do not include the name of the troop/Service Unit when sending a check. This will help us keep track and be able to serve you more efficiently!
$10 to cover the cost of lunch.
Most require $35 refundable deposit. Contact the office manager in the service center nearest you to reserve a resource.
