2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products
3. Screenshot 1 This is my opening shot, it gives a feeling of darkness and having a bright shadow on the font is a hint as to how this “shadow” following the protagonist may actually not be an evil shadow, however this is a very subtle hint which wouldn’t be very noticable. This challenges conventions because in majority of films of this genre you wouldn’t get any clues as to how the film may pan out this soon into it.
4. Screenshot 2 This is the main shot of my film, used in poster and the film review, this image is powerful because of the isolation that it portrays with the surrounding darkness and eerie red glow on the wall. This is a conventional shot because in many other forms this shot would be recognised as that of isolation and fits well in the criteria I have tried to show and follow
5. Screenshot 3 The car scene is how it is shown that there is something wrong with the protagonist. He isn’t concentrating and runs in front of a car, which fortunately stops. This method is one of many conventional methods to show a sense of insecurity and worry for the character.
6. Screenshot 4 This shot of the main character sliding down the door shows weakness, he is low down with a camera pointing down at him, his head laying down shows fear. This doesn’t challenge any forms because it helps display how his emotion builds. Many films building emotion would use this angle of shot like in the staircase scene of Psycho showing weakness of a character.
7. Screenshot 5 This shot I found quite key to the overall construction and build up of this film, heavily inspired by the shower scene in psycho because of the power and recognition that scene gained I thought I would aim to get a similar feel within my film.
8. Screenshot 6 With the character almost fully off the screen you get the feeling that he is falling away from the world, you can make out a knife in his hand, this is to implicate cutting and self harm. A powerful effect showing how the characters progressed in his state. This is very conventional in teen movies which relate to depression.
9. Screenshot 7 This shot shows fading and how he is really fading away even outdoors giving the feel of ending and it links to how the character is meant to be feeling. This also gives the audience a way to realise what is going on in the characters head letting us sympathise.
11. Screenshot 9 Characters final journey, he is almost impossible to see now and his final shot is now in view, his motives seem clear. This is very conventional and is seen in many films where it gives the audience a chance to prepare for what is about to happen.
12. Screenshot 10 Final shot, character now in full view with a second character in view. This is very iconic because we work out early on that the protagonist is running from something that is “overshadowing” him. This is the few seconds in which the film twists and we realise what actually was going on all along.
13. How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and the evaluation stages.
14. Video Camera All video and non-diegetic sound was captured off of a sonyhd video camera. This was the main equipment used throughout the entire project, images from this also went towards my Ancillary tasks.
15. Adobe Premier Pro CS5 This software was most useful during the editing process. After learning the basics and getting a good feel for it in my AS coursework I decided to use it again. This made it much easier to get to grips with. Its simple layout compared to other software made it a much easier and smoother process.
16. Adobe Photoshop CS5 This software was most useful during the creation of my Ancillary tasks. Although I had never used Photoshop before I read a few online tutorials and worked out what I needed to do, very much based on trial and error, making it quite a time consuming task which paid off in the end.
17. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks.
18. Poster My poster was my better ancillary task, it used the key shot from the film which sums up what the whole film is based on. Its font and colours reflect the imagery of how the film was based. Also the slogan “How would you react” would really grab the viewers attention and make them think that the film may have a relation to their own lives. Making them want to view the main product.
19. Review The film review was aimed to really sell out the film. I used all positive aspects of what made the film what it is and put them on. I really wanted to give anyone reading the article a chance to get a grip of the film from the review, without giving away any key information throughout. Using a similar image as the poster, meaning that people will start linking that image with the film in the end.
21. First feedback When I put my first rough cut online I had many criticisms, stating that I had made a bad effort in my editing, I didn’t have enough footage and that the sound was poorly added to the project. In response to this I decided to add a background track called “The Ascent” this had an eerie feel and it fit really well with the rest of the film. I also chose to finely cut the editing down and switch certain shot orders around to make the overall film flow much better.
22. Poster Feedback Generally I got good positive feedback for my poster, people liked the style and the layout of it. Only criticisms were that the titles font didn’t seem to suit the rest of the poster. If I had the time to change this then I would have.
23. Film review feedback This was overall very poorly done. There was no evidence of a magazine article in this. It just seemed like 3 different sections were put together to make a review. The text didn’t match the picture, back ground or title making it seem quite rushed. The text input however was more like a review. Overall most who have seen or read my review have disliked it and have told me it didn’t look very professional. Unfortunately I have run out of time to edit this.
