2. spawning
• Spawning is when the
mummy fish flaps her
tail to make a hole in
the gravel to lay her
eggs after she's laid her
eggs she covers the
hole up with the gravel
she dug up. Then swims
away. While she's doing
this the male does
nothing.
4. eggs(ova)
• The ova is the eggs that
the mummy made
during spawning
The black dot in
the middle of
the egg is the
eye
5. Alevins
• The alevins are the baby
brown troot that have
just hatched out like our
ones. All alevins have a
yolk atached to them.
They feed on it for a
couple of weeks
6. fry
• The fry is when the
troot have finished
feeding on their yolks.
7. parr
• The parr is the next step
from the fry.
• A trout of less than one
year old is called a parr.
• They start getting scales
that look like finger
prints.
8. Adults
• They now have to make
a decision to ethier be a
smolt or a brown trout
and stay in the burns ,
lochs and rivers.
9. Smolts
• Smolts are brown
trout's that are getting
ready to go into the sea.
• Young trout up to 1-3
years 5-7inches long
will go through some
physiological changes
which is to be able to
cope with salt water
and change to a silver
colour.
10. P6’s troot
• Our eggs have turned
into alevins and we
check up on them every
day. They are all happy
and swimming around.
