INTRODUCTION:
We need to design a poster advertising Ms. Daykin’s X-Factor event. It needs to be eye-catching and
suitable for this specific event. My end-user is Ms. Daykin and its objective is to advertise the X-Factor in
our school. I will achieve my goals by doing thorough research using various sources before actually
starting to plan the poster.
This problem relates to me because this event is taking place in my school society and, by that, it makes
me a part of it.
It also affects my society because the event takes place there. Also, the poster will have to be eyecatching to inform the most people about this event.
Finally, it relates to the area of interaction of Human Ingenuity because publicity is a product of the
human brain and it is very intelligent.

Notes on existing poster:
First elements that catch attention are colours, big image and title. The most conspicuous colours are
yellow and orange mainly. These are orientated to orange and yellow to give the colour of a spark or
fire.
On the poster, there are written some information about the event of a comic convention. There are
also prizes for who arrives first to attract more people. It is eye-catching, but absolutely not simple. It is
too crowded. The sponsors of the event are trying to involve people in going to meet people or to get
the magazine.
I rate 3 stars out of five for communicating the information, but 2 for effectiveness. The good things of
the poster are that there is a big title, eye-catching image and colours.
DESIGN BRIEF:
My attempt to try to address the issue of this assessment is “How do you create an effective poster
following your end-users specifications?” I am going to try to answer it by splitting up this question into
several guiding questions to make my research easier. To answer them, I will have to consult various
resources such us notes on existing posters, information on the internet, on books and so on. I am also
going to have to learn certain skills such as using publisher by practicing to use it.
My goal is to try and make a poster that advertises, in the best way I can, Ms. Daykin’s X-Factor. It must
also meet every specification from my end-user (Ms. Daykin).
The target audiences for this school event are ISM families and friends. So, the poster must be strictly
designed for these audiences.
The major constraints (limits) are a few. Firstly, the copyright law forbids me to use the original X-Factor
logo. Second, time is not plenty and restricts us to do only the main things. Then, at school there are
only some softwares that I can use, so I can’t do the work as well as I could have.
Finally, the criterions that a good poster should meet are informative, eye-catching and entertaining. To
be informative, it must contain correct information approved by my end-user with appropriate images.
To be eye caching, it must contain captivating pictures and layout, as well as attractive colours.

I think this test plan is pretty effective in doing its job at testing the finished poster. To make it better it
could include more things such as more colours.
Other tests could be a survey to the public or one to Ms. Daykin. They could be:

Does this poster reflect Ms. Daykin’s desires?
How much do you like this poster from 1 to 10?
Would you think it is acceptable?

  • 1. UNIT 1 G10 INTRODUCTION: We need to design a poster advertising Ms. Daykin’s X-Factor event. It needs to be eye-catching and suitable for this specific event. My end-user is Ms. Daykin and its objective is to advertise the X-Factor in our school. I will achieve my goals by doing thorough research using various sources before actually starting to plan the poster. This problem relates to me because this event is taking place in my school society and, by that, it makes me a part of it. It also affects my society because the event takes place there. Also, the poster will have to be eyecatching to inform the most people about this event. Finally, it relates to the area of interaction of Human Ingenuity because publicity is a product of the human brain and it is very intelligent. RESEARCH: Guiding questions for effective research: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Which components make an effective poster? Which software is best to use for creating a poster? What size should the poster be? How is the poster made to be more effective? How are existing posters structured? How do professionals plan their posters? Notes on existing poster: First elements that catch attention are colours, big image and title. The most conspicuous colours are yellow and orange mainly. These are orientated to orange and yellow to give the colour of a spark or fire. On the poster, there are written some information about the event of a comic convention. There are also prizes for who arrives first to attract more people. It is eye-catching, but absolutely not simple. It is too crowded. The sponsors of the event are trying to involve people in going to meet people or to get the magazine. I rate 3 stars out of five for communicating the information, but 2 for effectiveness. The good things of the poster are that there is a big title, eye-catching image and colours.

DESIGN BRIEF: My attempt to try to address the issue of this assessment is “How do you create an effective poster following your end-users specifications?” I am going to try to answer it by splitting up this question into several guiding questions to make my research easier. To answer them, I will have to consult various resources such us notes on existing posters, information on the internet, on books and so on. I am also going to have to learn certain skills such as using publisher by practicing to use it. My goal is to try and make a poster that advertises, in the best way I can, Ms. Daykin’s X-Factor. It must also meet every specification from my end-user (Ms. Daykin). The target audiences for this school event are ISM families and friends. So, the poster must be strictly designed for these audiences. The major constraints (limits) are a few. Firstly, the copyright law forbids me to use the original X-Factor logo. Second, time is not plenty and restricts us to do only the main things. Then, at school there are only some softwares that I can use, so I can’t do the work as well as I could have. Finally, the criterions that a good poster should meet are informative, eye-catching and entertaining. To be informative, it must contain correct information approved by my end-user with appropriate images. To be eye caching, it must contain captivating pictures and layout, as well as attractive colours. DESIGN SPECIFICATION: Limits: Fuction You must not drag people’s attention always from the poster. Appearance The poster must not have unattractive images. Content There must not be more than three images. Materials The poster must not contain the original XFactor logo. You must not give false information to people. The poster must not have a fluorescent colour as a background. The font must not be unreadable or messy. The poster must not show inappropriate images. The poster must not include videos or sound clips. You must not include images from the copyright law. It must not include logos except the ISM one. The poster must not include information about other events. Size The font size mustn’t be smaller than 20 and no bigger than 50. The poster should not contain photos bigger than half an A4.

To make it better it could include more things such as more colours. Other tests could be a survey to the public or one to Ms. Daykin. They could be: Do you think this poster is effective to advertise this event? Does this poster respect the poster conventions? Does this poster reflect Ms. Daykin’s desires? How much do you like this poster from 1 to 10? Would you think it is acceptable? PROCESS JOURNAL: 11th October 2013 I wrote up the text boxes containing all the basic information about the event. I created the X for the title using shapes. I inserted the ISM logo under the title. I inserted a photo of some children singing from a previous school.
