3. A MESSAGE
FROM THE MD
MassChallenge Mexico Impact Report 2020
02
In 2021, we will continue working on attracting
increasingly disruptive business models that generate
exponential sources of labor and income for the entire
region. This year we want to achieve a total expansion
of our efforts by recruiting world-class startups that
provide new perspectives to our program.
I would love to invite you to be an active member of
MassChallenge Mexico in order to discover the magic
created by the startups in our region. In our community,
we are aware that these innovative models are real
disruptors and that they are the best catalysts to boost
the economy of our country.
Things will get better.
Regards,
Camila Lecaros
Managing Director,MassChallenge México
Dear MassChallenge Community:
In 2020, our lives changed in a way none of us could
ever imagine. The ongoing pandemic made us adapt to
a new normality, making our homes our workplaces and
our families and pets our coworkers. We learned a new
way to communicate and conduct our lives.
Despite this constantly changing scenario, our 2020
cohort never stopped working and preparing for every
meeting and event. All of this makes me really excited
about what we were able to accomplish during the
accelerator program. The startups this year grew
remarkably. They showed that limits do not exist when
there is a driving force to change the world.
I would also like to take a moment to thank the
MCMX team, because all of this would not have been
possible without it. Every member gave an outstanding
performance, making sure the program ran flawlessly.
4. 2020 was a year full of uncertainty. It was, undoubtedly, a year that
transformed industries, companies and how businesses were built. In spite of
this, MassChallenge stuck to the schedule and decided to continue working
remotely. More than ever, supporting entrepreneurs was vital to the economy in
order to recover quickly from the covid-19 pandemic.
It is a privilege to share with you the highlights from 2020. MassChallenge
Mexico ran its first Accelerator virtually, working very close with startups from
different countries. The physical barriers were removed to foster collaborations
among startups, partners, and experts from around the globe.

for the accelerator program.
Modern entrepreneurship is a global endeavor that spans geographical and cultural boundaries, and the winners will
be those that collaborate by leveraging regional strengths combined with a global platform of connected resources,
partners, and markets.
MassChallenge Mexico Impact Report 2020

MassChallenge helps entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses. We focus on early-stage companies –those
who have less than 1M USD fundraised and 2M USD in revenue per year– from all industries.
MassChallenge brings people and organizations together, enabling high-potential startups to solve problems and
stimulate economies. We are global, outcome-focused, and equity-free.
We use a competition model to select our startups:
THE MC METHODOLOGY
The highest-impact and highest-potential
startups are invited to participate in the
accelerator as Finalists. Only 5% of the
applicants are accepted into the program.
Startups participate in one or two rounds
of judging. Our high-quality and merit-
based judging process ensures that those
with expertise decide who participates and
wins prizes, not us.
At the end of the accelerator, there are
two more rounds of judging: Pre-final, and
Final, where the winners are selected.

Achivements:
MassChallenge Mexico completed a result-oriented acceleration program focused on growing and connecting 37 startups
from different industries such as Fintech, Entertainment, Social Impact, Food and Beverage, Healthcare, Education,
amongst other.
Startups were able to focus on their outcomes by measuring key indicators and establishing an initial work plan. In
addition, the program was tailored to provide entrepreneurs with a range of strategic and tactical insights including
sales, marketing, law, finance, product design, managing growth, and fundraising.
The program obtained an overall NPS of 84, which means that founder startups are extremely likely to recommend
MassChallenge Mexico on its first-virtual edition program. Currently, 100% of the startups are still operating and growing.
On average, they have achieved a revenue growth of at least 88% and have increased their staff by 43%.

EARLY-STAGE COMMUNITIES
MassChallenge Mexico Impact Report 2020
14
Starting-up initiative
Starting-up with MassChallenge Mexico is a community
for early staged startups that are based on several
countries from Latin America. This initiative seeks to
aid more startups that want to learn about running
their businesses and how to set the foundations for
their companies. The entrepreneurs who are part of this
community have free access to webinars about relevant
topics based on their needs and interests.
Since its launch in 2020, we have offered 11 webinars
that impacted 816 entrepreneurs from Mexico, Colombia,
Guatemala, Argentina, and many others.
Startup
Circles
Startup Circles is a hub-based program ran by
MassChallenge Mexico in partnership with Facebook. The
program was thought as a regional hub to support early-
stage entrepreneurs with tech companies. Furthermore,
it was designed to help entrepreneurs build better
products by connecting them to a local network of
startups and experts.
Since 2020, Facebook and MassChallenge Mexico have
together developed the Startup Circles communities in
Mexico City and Bogota. In Mexico, the community has
124 entrepreneurs while in Colombia it is comprised of 62
entrepreneurs. Moving forward into a virtual world, the
remote platforms allowed to gather both communities
to promote networking and enable collaborations in the
service of solving challenges. Each community evolved
thanks to the ambassadors’ eagerness to go one step
further by creating coffee meetups and inviting skilled
entrepreneurs who shared their stories.

Empower

nurturing our community in topics such as inclusiveness,

This space allowed attendees to share their initiatives,
ideas, and perspectives regarding the challenges and
opportunities of women in the digital world. The themes
discussed included What has changed in a year for
female founders, Being a mom and an entrepreneur, and
Is the entrepreneurial ecosystem inclusive?
Fintech Sprint
Since 2016, MCMX designed an industry event
focused on discussing the most important trends in the
financial technology ecosystem. The Fintech Sprint is
characterized every year by its high-quality content and
speakers.
Mentoring
Mentors come from all areas and industries to
accommodate the wide range of startups and founder
backgrounds. Mentors are seasoned entrepreneurs,
investors, philanthropists, lawyers, and senior executives
from corporations. Complementary to the formal
Mentorship Program are informal office hours, where
startups gain invaluable insight from top experts.
