can coexist peacefully and equitably in a single country
Religious State
Religion controls the government
Active State Religions
State supports religion while maintaining a level of independence
Nation State
Independent state inhabited mainly by people sharing common culture
Nationalism Refers to sense of ideology, form of culture, or social movement focussed
on the nation
Fundamentalism A belief in, and strict adherence to, a set of religious principles; often a
reaction to perceived compromises with modern social and political life
Secularisation The process by which a society moves from close identification with
religious institutions to a more separated relationship.
