Q: What’s the goal of the data
dictionary?
A: Comparability.
1. To give a researcher the information (s)he
needs to conduct an in depth comparison of
different inventories (humans).
2. To help automate the comparison of
different inventories (machines).
(And also: Transparency.)

What isn’t the data dictionary
trying to do?
1. Suggest a new or better format for GHG, BC,
and CAC inventories.
2. Make any substantial changes to the way
inventories are produced.

What will the final product
look like?
1. A paper containing UML Class Diagrams and
Schemata relating to the objects included in an
inventory, as well as examples of the
framework applied to GHG, BC, and CAC

2. A supplementary website containing UML
Class Diagrams and Schemata.

So if this works, what does the
future look like?
1. Centralized web-based repository of
inventory data, with query, visualization, and
distribution tools.
2. Decentralized markup of inventories with
RDFa Lite to make published inventories
machine-readable.

Q: Can we apply the same
framework to GHG, BC, and
CAC inventories?
A. Yes. Each type of inventory
has a similar structure, based on
the relationships between core
objects.
