Gathering Data from Coupon Campaigns

Dallas, TX, – Most of today’s brands realize that gathering consumer data is power, but many are overlooking the fact that
the simplest way to gather that data has been in front of them the whole time! Their coupons! Throughout my time in the
marketing industry, I’ve never seen a more powerful driver of consumer action than coupons. Aside from the usual reasons
for distributing coupons (driving sales and usage/ product trial), brands should understand how use their coupons to
increase social fan base, reward bloggers, create virality around an offer, and most importantly, gather consumer data.
So what can you learn from REAL consumer data?
Let’s meet Pam. We learned a lot from her in the seconds it took for us to get her a coupon and here
are just a few of the key data points. She lives in Sedgwick, Kansas and she loves orange juice.
1 of approximately 11,000 unique individuals that printed a popular national beverage coupon in
Facebook, she printed hers on October 15th
, redeeming it on the 31st
at a Schnuck Market in St. Louis,
MO. Pam was not printing from one of the top 10 print cities for this offer. In fact, most of those were
on the East Coast.
Pam was not even aware of the online presence of this brand. The viral nature of the campaign brought her and another
40% of all coupon prints to this brand’s page as new fans. A frequent Facebook user, Pam shared the coupon online and
sent several of her friends to print it as well.
