3. Purpose:
The Design Engineer plays a key role as the member of the team responsible for the entire process of
machine conceptualization, to successful delivery to customer. His specific role is to provide design
inputs and timely delivery of detailed and accurate engineering drawings and BOM
Tasks
1. Keep abreast of latest developments in Automation Technology & available equipment by going
through various catalogues and website of various manufacturers within “Automation Industry”.
2. Understand customer requirements through meetings with marketing and visits to customer
premises whenever necessary.
3. With requisite preparation participate in daily meetings as required by Project Manager.
4. Provide quick concept drawing for preparation of quotations to marketing department.
5. After each “Introductory Meeting” by marketing department & on the basis of list of sub-
assemblies provided by marketing, prepare “Delivery Schedule” for detailed manufacturing
drawings & BOM in consultation with Marketing Executive before kickoff meeting.
6. Get all the relevant information from Marketing Engineer to ensure that the design of the machine
matches customer expectations.
7. Provide feedback to Marketing engineers if there are any deviations from the original concept as
communicated to the customer.
8. As per schedule, prepare detailed mechanical BOM & Collect information from various
departments for electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic BOM to make a consolidated BOM in the
approved format in soft copy and hand it over to Project Manager.
9. Prepare & hand over physical files in triplicates to project manager. Ensure that the files are
collected back to design after completion of project for final modifications or else archiving.
10. Carry out “on the spot” changes in manufacturing and provide rectified Drawings with BOM.
11. Prepare & securely store “As Built” drawings (Soft or physical) before dispatch of project and
submit “Closure Report” to the HOD or Director.
12. Being the “Owner & custodian” of detailed drawings & BOM, maintain with security the filing
system in both physical & electronic form.
13. For the security purpose you have to sign an NDA with the Company.
14. Organize the work from draughtsman.
a. To give final concept drawing to draughtsman.
b. To collect all detailed drawing from draughtsman.
c. To collect detailed BOM from draughtsman.
d. Monitor tasks given by you.
15. To take daily feedback meetings with all departmental persons.
16. Provide guidance to the Project team on Design related issues.
17. Ensure that all Design deliverables are reviewed to establish they are within budget, are fully
coordinated and are buildable.
18. Maintain a daily excel worksheet on “Job Allocation” and “Engineering Man Hours”.
