PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY OF
TIMOTHY R. RE, Ed.D.
Dr. Timothy Re has been a professional educator for more than twenty-three years,
serving the past year as Assistant Principal at Elizabethtown Middle School and the
previous two years as Principal of Elizabethtown Area High School (Elizabethtown,
Pennsylvania). Dr. Re also served as Assistant Principal at Central York High School
(York, PA) for four years before being hired at Elizabethtown Area High School. Before
his administrative career, Dr. Re taught science Pennsylvania, North Carolina and New
York.
Dr. Re’s dissertation, Teacher and Administrator Perceptions on the Effectiveness of
Individualized Teacher Improvement Plans, reflects his commitment to ensuring that
students receive the quality education that they deserve and that teachers are provided
with the resources and training necessary to foster professional growth.
While serving as Principal at Elizabethtown Area High School, Dr. Re is credited with
developing a new S.T.E.M. program for grades 9-12, and involving his staff in the
opportunity to have been selected for Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13’s
P.U.L.S.E. grant (a fully- funded S.T.E.M. initiative). Through Dr. Re’s leadership at
both the High School and Middle School, he has lead several initiatives to expand
educational opportunities for all students, especially in the fields of S.T.E.M. and
Agriculture. He was also instrumental in leading Professional Development for staff in
the areas of Data Analysis, Student Learning Outcomes, and the Pennsylvania Teacher
Effectiveness Evaluation instrument. Dr. Re is a leader of the middle school’s newly
implemented Instruction Support Team to meet academic and behavioral needs of
students identified as “At-Risk”.
During his tenure as Assistant Principal at Central York High School, Dr. Re initiated the
implementation of several best practices, including being the first high school in
Pennsylvania to successfully adopt the RtII model. State level experts in RtII are worked
with Dr. Re and Central York to study the high school RtII model and begin to train other
secondary schools in its use. Dr. Re played a critical role in the expansion of the high
school’s S.T.E.M. academy with the implementation of career academies and the
development pf a partnership with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a nationally
recognized program of S.T.E.M. excellence. In addition to the several duties prescribed
2. to Dr. Re in his role as an Assistant Principal, he served on the district’s Data Team and
assisted in the creation of district wide data assessments, warehousing and the
development of protocols useful to all educators in the analysis of data as a driving force
to educational initiatives that focus on increased rigor and relevance in conjunction with
new Pennsylvania Keystone Exams, Common Core and PSSA assessments. Dr. Re has
also successfully negotiated with the district superintendents and teachers’ union, a
protocol for the development and implementation of teacher improvement plans. Dr. Re
played a significant role in developing a partnership between his former school and local
colleges to provide all students with the opportunity to earn college credit within the
regular school day.
Prior to serving as Principal, Dr. Re served as a high school science teacher (Biology
focus), Science Department Chair, County Science Supervisor, and from 1997-2003, he
served on the Professional Development and Education Committee for the National
Biology Teacher’s Association. From 1996 through 2007, Dr. Re served as a consultant,
author and researcher for the Biological Sciences Curriculum Studies (BSCS) based in
Colorado Springs, CO. During his work with BSCS, he was recognized by the National
Institutes of Health for contributions made to public education of biology students. Dr.
Re also conducted research in the field of genetics while working at Carolina’s Medical
Center (Charlotte, NC). His research in this field has been published in scholarly journals.
In 1999, Dr. Re earned National Board Certified Teacher status through the National
Board for Professional Teaching Standards and served as a liaison between the North
Carolina Department of Education and various county school systems. While serving in
this capacity, Dr. Re was appointed to the North Carolina Development of Future Leaders
program through UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Re has been honored by TimeWarner cable as a STAR teacher, and was recognized
by the National Association of Biology Teachers for his work in promoting females in the
sciences. A finalist for the NABT Outstanding Teacher Award and Minority Education
Award and also a nominee for the Disney Teacher Award, Dr. Re has devoted his
professional career to improving academic excellence and developing positive
relationships with students.
He earned his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management in 2013 from Drexel
University, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from York College of Pennsylvania in
2007,along with a K-12 Principal Certification. He completed all four courses in the
Pennsylvania Inspired Leaders program in 2010. His undergraduate degree is also from
York College of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and
Secondary Education (1991). Dr. Re grew up in Buffalo, New York and currently resides
in Mechanicsburg, PA.
