Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for your patience in waiting for us to contact you. As you know IYV+10 is only 6 months
away and many of you are preparing the ground already. We hope to be able to provide you with
some initial guidance to contribute to a successful IYV+10 in your country with the information and
attachments provided. We would like to provide you with regular News Flashes about the
preparatory process, highlight reference documents for you to use to communicate with your
partners about IYV+10 and provide some feedback about what you are doing in your respective
countries.
The challenge to prepare a successful IYV+10 is high but you are not alone! Success for IYV+10 will lie
in the multitude of diverse activities on the national level but you are not expected to implement all
events by yourself! We would like to accompany you along the way as you prepare strong multi‐
stakeholder partnerships in your country through coordination, facilitation and the provision of
information. Several international stakeholders from civil society, the private sector and the UN
system as well as governments have committed to marking IYV+10. The challenge now lies in linking
the national constituencies and partners of these entities together on the national level.
As the first coordinating bodies for IYV+10 are set up, we would like to undertake a mapping
exercise of existing National Committees and other coordinating structures for volunteer involving
organisations (VIO's) on national level, which could play a role in marking the tenth anniversary of
the International Year of Volunteers. We would greatly appreciate your support by filling the survey
yourself to the best of your knowledge and by encouraging your national partners to do the same.
Below you find pre‐formulated paragraphs with the link to the survey in English, French and Spanish,
which you could just forward to your partners. The deadline to fill the survey is the 12th July.
Attached to this News Flash you find a document called IYV+10: Opportunities for Action. This
document gives a brief overview of the global process underway to mark the tenth anniversary of
the International Year of Volunteers. You may want to distribute this document to your partners on
the national level.
All the attachments you will receive from us from now on including the News Flashes can also be
found on the Knowledge Platform and the ones, which are also relevant for the general public, are
also posted on www.worldvolunteerweb.org.

Survey: Preparing the International Year of Volunteers (tenth anniversary)
In preparation of marking the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) in
2011, UNV has been reviewing material on the National Committees, which existed in many
countries for the IYV in 2001. We would like to undertake a mapping exercise of existing National

Enquête: La préparation pour L’Année Internationale des Volontaires (Dixième Anniversaire)
En vue du dixième anniversaire de l'Année Internationale des Volontaires (AIV+10) en 2011, le
programme VNU a passé en revue le matériel concernant les comités nationaux mis en place dans
plusieurs pays pour l'AIV de 2001. Nous aimerions établir une liste des comités nationaux existants
ainsi que des autres structures chargées de la coordination des organisations de volontaires (OV) au
niveau national qui pourraient jouer un rôle dans la célébration du dixième anniversaire de l’Année

Encuesta: Preparando el Año Internacional de los Voluntarios (10º aniversario)
Con motivo de la conmemoración del décimo aniversario del Año Internacional de los Voluntarios
(AIV +10) en el 2011, el programa VNU ha revisado los informes sobre los Comités Nacionales
existentes en varios países durante el AIV del año 2001. Nos gustaría evaluar la situación de los
Comités Nacionales existentes y de otras estructuras que coordinan organizaciones de voluntariado
(VIO’s) a nivel nacional y que podrían cumplir una función en la conmemoración del décimo
